Default Brake Switch Question

Hey all. Just changed my brake pedal today in my 2015 ecoboost crew cab. Got everything bolted back up and the brake light switch won’t engage. The bracket with the rubber stopper won’t reach far enough to press it in. I’ve tried messing with it. Only thing I can think of is the booster’s rod needs to come out more. I bent the bracket so it engages the switch so it works but if like to know what happened and if I can fix back the right way. Any thoughts let me know. Thanks!

I actually see now that somehow the switch is able to extend. Anyone know how?

well at this point you probably need a new one.step one any time your messing around the brake pedal is to disconnect switch. then when finished reinstall it without pushing on brake pedal,

I would definitely not mess with the brake boosters rod !!!
Stop & think it was okay before ? Therefore it was adjusted to engage the master cylinder @ precisely @ the right length etc. !!

You say you changed the brake pedal....... I first would ask why !!....
Also did you change the pedal itself or the whole lever assembly because apparently something was NOT the same or installed correctly !!
Also you maybe endangering yourself & others because your lack of knowledge did not apparently install the proper parts etc ??
Something changed in the lever action !!
By saying above I'm only trying to impress upon you to recheck what you did !!....Good Luck......

If I need a new one no worries. Lesson learned. I disconnected the battery and disconnected the electrical part of the switch but I didn’t remove the switch physically from the bracket. It was a hassle getting the pedal out of there and I know the switch was bumped a lot. Does the switch have some sort of memory once it’s set in place?

It has no memory...that black piece (with white tip) moves in & out after switch is installed correctly....
At a certain point it completes the circuit to activate your brake lights...
Your picture dose not show (to me) like it can be adjusted
There maybe some adjustment where the switch is mounted to...or the bracket itself....

Thanks maco. I appreciate your concern but I installed an entire brake assembly correctly from another truck. Everything works properly brake wise. There is nothing wrong with the actual brake functions or master cylinder or brake booster. The reason I changed it is dumb and it didn’t work anyway. I’m OCD. I was trying to cut down on pedal vibration so I swapped from adjustable pedals to the regular xl pedals both gas and brake. Waste of time. There is no adjustment on the bracket or pedal. I’m wondering if something I did removing it made the black plunger retract or something or maybe the switch was set up different on the truck I pulled from. I took apart switch and was able to extend it but I’m gonna order a new one to be sure.

Apparently the switch can adjust when you’re removing it, at least that’s what I read on another forum. Person had same switch. Mine is working enough now. I’m gonna order a factory replacement and change it this week.

@r1mcdonald looks like you hit the nail on the head. Found this:

Do not press, pull or otherwise move the brake pedal while installing the stoplamp switch. The switch must be installed with the booster push rod attached to the brake pedal and with the brake pedal in the at-rest position. Installing this switch with the brake pedal in any other position will result in incorrect adjustment and may damage the switch.

Thanks for your help guys!
