Default brake squeak help...

I have a 2016 Lariat FX4 CC with just over 9500 miles. About 2 weeks ago, I had the front struts and rear shocks swapped out and replaced with bilstein 5100's and a front end alignment done. Now I have a low speed (under 5-10 mph) brake squeak up front. I thought it was just while it was cold, but the other day I noticed it after it had been driven for a bit. No squeak if brakes are pushed hard and/or stopping from faster than 10 mph.

Did a search for break squeak, didn't really see anything except maybe the IWE, but I don't know.

I'm not really able to get out there and check things out like I used to, getting too damned old, so I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

I'm curious where you found some front Bilstein 5100 shocks to install?

LOL They were a father's day gift from 2017. We were in the process of remodeling old home, selling, buying new property and then moving. So, they sat in the garage all packed up until just a couple weeks ago. Almost sold them but this road to the new property changed my mind. Glad I did have them swapped out! HUGE difference!

I'm also getting the brake squeak at the same mileage (9900 mi) on my 2017. Those miles are about 50/50 in town/highway.

I am still on the original shocks although I will install some Bilstein 5100s as well soon.

It is way too early for brakes/pads to be squeaking.

I had the same low-speed squeak on my 2015. I took the calipers off and looked at the pads: they were glazed. Replaced them with OEM Ford pads (heavy duty version) and the squeak went away. It's inexpensive and you can do it yourself (see YouTube videos). The new pads also stop the truck more smoothly, the old pads grabbed a little too suddenly.

Thanks. Don't know why the pads would glaze so quickly (defective?) but I like your solution.

Thanks, I figured it was probably something like that.

To the OP,

Since your truck is still below 12K miles the Ford dealer will fix it despite the fact that brakes are considered wear items. It is worth a shot.

I had to get the rotors turned on mine at about 32K miles., my pads were still good, no way yours are worn at 9K miles. I had to pay for it, when I asked about the 3/36 warranty I was told the above.

Most brake squealing can be resolved by placing high temperature brake lube on the back of pads. Just pull off tire, slide caliper back and put on some high temp brake lube. Most trucks with that few miles do not need new brakes, they just need some lube for whatever reason. You might live in high salt environment, you might overly wash your brakes with brake cleaner or degreaser from car wash.
