Default Box Side Step Failures

I'm really happy with my 2018 King Ranch. However, Minnesota winters have killed four sets of box side steps and the dealer and Ford customer care will not replace them under my extended warranty. I took delivery of the truck in September 2017 and the steps were replaced in May 2018, May 2019 and April 2020 under my bumper to bumper warranty. Customer care now says they have to be corroded to the point of perforation--none of them have been on the truck long enough to get corroded! Has anyone else experienced similar failures? I would not recommend new buyers north of the Mason-Dixon line add this option to their truck. Thanks.

I have them on my 2016. I don't use them very often. After winter they take some cleaning and lubrication to get working again. Mine aren't very corroded. I am north of the M-D line.

What happened to them each time they had to be replaced?

Everytime I washed mine, I would extend the steps, clean and lubricate. They are just another component on the truck that needs maintenance.

This. They are magnets for dirt and little rocks. I have to clean mine out all the time.

Thanks for the feedback. The problem: Steps will not deploy in the spring. Context: I have a wash package through my dealer and wash the truck at least weekly (unless it's below 15 degrees). I also lubricate the steps every fall and use them probably 5 times per year. And the dealer chose to replace versus service them, so they couldn't get them to deploy to clean and lubricate them. If they won't replace them, I will remove them permanently. Happy trails!

Carwash won't do it. I take my truck through the wash weekly, sometimes twice a week, with underbody spray and I still find crap in there.

My steps work fine , I normally do a spring maintenance . I use them occasionally during the winter and they do respond slower but work . I live in Anchorage Alaska . 2015 Platinum Screw, parked outside year round

I wonder if the issue is specific to different winter road treatments?
