Bluetooth audio from iPhone issues
I've got a 2019 with the latest version of Sync.
I'm having some problems with the Bluetooth connection between the iPhone and the truck. What I want is to play music from the music library on my phone every time I start the truck without having to interact with my phone. It seems to work about half of the time that I start the truck, but the other half of the time it will connect to the phone but not play the audio. When it does this, I have to either navigate through the menus on the dash to select the phone and hit the play button repeatedly, sometimes five or six times. This only works about 20% of the time at best. The other way to fix it is to pull over, pull out my phone, open my music app, and select the music I want to play. Sometimes it starts playing where it left off once the music app opens, but other times it acts like I never played it all. Does this sound like a problem with my phone, my truck, or both? Have any of you had this problem?
What's ironic is that I thought I would bypass the whole problem and use an old iPod Classic I had laying around instead of my phone. I plugged it into my USB port, but it doesn't boot up with the truck every time, and sometimes it will reboot over and over while the truck is running. I have to unplug it and reconnect it over and over to get the truck to see it. I know the iPod is not the problem because I used it in my previous vehicle and it worked flawlessly for years.

I got the same problem, My iPhone was connected as a media player, however, anything I played (music or YouTube) was muted. After reconnecting, everything stays muted. Only turn off and on a truck brought the system to work
Dealer after pointing it made some update - now I see on the screen the Bluetooth was disconnected and the sync is attempting right away to connect it back.
It's a bit funny when I am hearing something off the phone and suddenly in the middle of the song I am disconnected and the sync telling me on the screen that attempt to reconnect to the Bluetooth now. 9 out of 10 times successfully done.
Looks like Ford didn't solve the Bluetooth problem instead of that incorporated a reconnect feature. Sounds like there is a hardware problem, solved by a software.

A recent update has caused mine to do that reconnect process as well. As you mentioned, as long as the music is already playing when the reconnect happens, it usually continues playing as it should. The problem that I am having is that I will be listening to music from the phone while I am driving, turn off the truck to go into the store or office and when I come out and start the truck, even though the phone reconnects the music does not pick up where it left before. The only way to get it to play is to mess with my phone to hit the play button in the music app, which isn't the safest thing to do while driving.
It's frustrating. We have work vehicles at my job that are able to do this just fine, but my truck will not.

FYI - The most recent SYNC update (3.4.20282) appears to have fixed this problem for me. I updated the software on Monday evening, and it has worked perfectly since then. It might be worth upgrading if you're having the same problem.
