Default Blind Spot (lack of) Warning

2016 Lariat with tech package and do like the all the warnings.

But I still can't get over why there is only such a small LED on the outside mirrors to alert you of a vehicle in your blind spot and that it only blinks if you turn your signal on. No audio warning (like forward or rear collision). All my other vehicles at least provide an audio warning.

Or am I just missing something? I have look too many times to count to see if there is an audio setting and can't find one

You’re not missing anything. I’ve been equally disappointed at the small light as every other vehicle I’ve owned with blind spot made it very evident you had a vehicle in your blind spot whereas with this one, I actually need to watch the mirror closely. I’ve always used my peripheral vision to see the light and know it’s not safe. If it’s not lit, I’ll then look in the mirror and over the shoulder. With the f150 I must look away from the road ahead at my mirror to see if it’s lit. Seems like they could’ve made this light more evident.
no audible warning either.

Glad it just isn't me.

I agree, it is much easier using peripheral vision on the mirrors. My wife's and daughter's Nissan has the warning lights on the inside of the pillar. that is really nice. but they also get a audible warning if you flip on your blinker and there is a car in the blind spot.

the F150 wouldn't be so bad if it had the audible warning.

Guess I, like you, will keep tying to have one eye on the road and the other on the mirror.

The only experience I have is from a rental car a few years back. Maybe my ex's Civic has it but it's been a while that I have been in that car.

The rental was a Chrysler that had a larger light on the interior door panel. I thought it was a pretty silly design. I then assumed a driver would eventually get use to it and ignore it.
I like the light on the mirror. I'm going to look in the mirror anyway, and I've been driving for too long to not trust the sight of a vehicle, the light, to me, is just an aid.

I guess it's just what makes us human....I think the larger light is silly. Probably designed for those distracted drivers, but also working it's way into the newer generation of drivers that will learn on the big lights and it will become their normal. I wonder if I'd actually purchase a vehicle with a bright and obnoxious BLIS light. Good topic as I'm working up to vehicle shopping in the near future!

My last daily driver was a 2008 Honda Accord, so all the tech in my truck is a huge leap forward. The small yellow light on my tow mirrors is perfect for me. I personally would absolutely hate having a chime go off every time a vehicle came up on one side or the other

In my other cars, you get ONLY the indicator light in the mirror when there is a vehicle in the blind spot AND your turn signal is NOT on -- no chime goes off. However, if you put on your turn signal for the side with the blind-spotted car, only THEN will you get a "chime".

Wish BLIS worked that way.

Ah I see. I agree that would be a good feature.

the chime in wife’s Nissan is only when a car is there (warning light on) and when you put your blinker on. Just a nice added touch of extra awareness. Her car is a 2016 so not any newer than my truck. However I can’t complain as my prior 2012 F150 didn’t have even the blind spot detection. So the little light is a step up, just hard to see sometimes
