Default Blacked Out Halogen Headlights

Without doing a retrofit you cant just black out the reflector. Like stated above the halogen needs the mirror reflector to produce light. The only way is to make a self contained light source like a projector with lense.

No I get it... Leave the chrome pockets alone and just black out the chrome " frame " of it like that picture and definitely have to tint the Orange plastics...

And besides... I'm cool with my baby having some eyeliner on... It's sexy... Glue on eye lashes is where I draw the line! Liable to blow off and get sucked in through the air intake or something! 😎

I'm willing to bet you won't have a hard time removing the orange reflectors. A lot of companies that do retrofits will do that.

I can't possibly be the first person to attempt painting the housing of his 2015 halogen headlights, can I?

Yeah... Mainly because if youre going through that much effort, just get the LED ones, and have it done for you.

Plus, if you mean blackout the reflector bucket also, that would just be dumb, anyone who does this should just remove the headlights entirely.

Well... The LED's blacked out cost $1650 and a can of black spray paint costs $5 so yeah I think it's worth it. Ford apparently thinks it's a cool idea too since they're putting it on whatever this is... and of course the headlights have to come out... Ford always does this... They change the model and then after a year or 2 they offer blacked out halogens... It's always been in the Harley and FX4/2 models. I'm sure someone will make some cheap Chinese knock offs in a year or so that'll leak and fog up after a few months for a couple hundreds dollars... So I could wait or do it myself.

I've considered attempting a few things to tint mine, not necessarily black out. Spending $2000 for blacked out LEDs is just not in my budget. I can do some way cooler things with less money. I think the option will be more mainstream and available as this model becomes more popular. Similar to the 09'-14'. Therefore choices will be more abundant and prices will come down. Fortunately I am not in a rush to complete this mod. It will be something I do in 2 years to make me like the truck again and prevent me from trading.

I wish I had your patience my friend lol I might even buy used halogens online and experiment on them incase things get ugly. If I can find them for the right price but most of them have broken tabs on eBay... Is that common while removing these?

I'm not sure about the headlight tabs, but breaking the plastic tabs on the sides of the grille is pretty common. The broken tabs on the grille doesn't affect anything. More like guide tabs. It's already held in by 6 bolts and like 19 push pins so the tabs do nothing.

Do the broken tabs affect the installation of the headlights? Meaning can they still be secured? If they can still be secured with factory hardware and its just a guide tab broken then it might be worth it. Maybe ask one of the guys that did a headlight swap already. I think @boatmanbuzz did it and I know @baxzilla did it.
