What am I missing? This is a recall on just the 2015 and later trucks?

So, things get cold and freeze... what about all of those very cold winters where my locks froze on my 1983 F150, my 1987 Ranger, my 2000 Mustang, my 2001 F150, my 2003 F150, my 2005 F150, my 2008 Mustang, my 2011 Silverado (oh, the horror of that mistake), and my 2013 F150?
And I've only had stuff frozen so bad where the doors wouldn't latch on my 1983.

It is 4:48 AM, I'm Sick (really) and tired, haven't slept in two days, so don't attack me if I'm stepped on toes or have fallen into the middle of a sore subject... obviously, this is a more serious issue that what I've glossed over about it.

For the guys that did have this happen. Would spraying the latch with a good "water-resistant" lube solve it..?

My solution has been take pic’s and video. I then call Dealership and make appointment for truck. After that call I call Ford Customer Service and get a rental car approved. Drop truck off and leave in rental. After problem happening first two winters the truck was a Lemon by my state law and Ford replaced with 2018.

No reason to fix or put anything on to try and fix this issue. Ford knows it is a problem has done a tsb, recall, and another service whatever to try and fix. So far no proven long term fix has been available since the beginning of 2015. This year for problem trucks there is a new fix and part that may or may not work. Your mileage may very but the fact Ford keeps buying back trucks and has a new fix proves to date nothing has worked. This issue was also expanded to include SD and last winter there were several of those which are included in the new Service Write up as well.

This failure is on Ford Management and not engineering. No way an engineer hasn’t developed the solution, management hasn’t allowed the fix because of costs or some other unknown reason. To date many many vehicles are bought back as Lemons for this specific reason. That process and the company that manages it for Ford are a nightmare and Ford does nothing to resolve. Every winter has been worse and this one will help show whether the Recall ever fixed problems or if it prolongs time before initial failure.

Good luck all all and hopefully this is the year we have a proven fix for this problem!!

No that won’t work. The problem is that ford unintentionally used a grease that freezes at a higher temperature than what is generally accepted for the application. The solution is to remove the factory grease and use a new lower freeze point grease as a replacement. The reason some have success with the recall and others still have issues is because the dealer does not always do a thourough job of removing the old grease and just puts the new grease over the old still allowing the freezing issue to continue.

This is the first I have heard of the grease temperature issue. Any references for inquiring minds to read?

Im going by memory here and its been a couple years but when the first major freezes after the 2015 release started which was close to a year after they hit the roads the reports started coming up of frozen latches. I don't remember if there as a TSB or not but the initial fix at the dealers was to replace the grease if a customer came in with the concern. In 2017 the issue was wide spread enough that Ford decided to recall about 1.4 million units. Because of the limited success with the initial fix because of the difficulty of getting all the grease properly removed and its high ability to absorb water making the issue even worse Ford decided to abandon the grease replacement strategy and install a water shield hoping this would elevate the issue. But to answer your actual question, no I don't have a document handy for you to read.

thanks . I sure do love it and I got it 6.5 years ago. Now those cars are becoming more desirable so value is increasing. Parts are a bitch though

This will be my first winter for my 18 Scab.
It's also my fourth Scab since 2005. I've never had an issue other than the bottom latch not catching when I didn't close it hard enough with my 05 and my 2010.
My 2014 was mint. In fact that entire truck was mint.

Anyways, even though I have the B&O stereo, I'm going to replace my rear door speaker's. The cross traffic alert did something to my driver's side (discussed already on another thread)
So I'm gonna check out the mechanism while it's apart to see what is different than my previous years.
I can't imagine I can't prevent it from happening if it is still an issue in the 2018's. I'll report back.
