Default Bent frame??!

So I have a 16 super crew with 2.7, 4 inch lift, and Firestone ride right airbags. I tow a 14ft dump trailer for work and today I was pulling it to the dump loaded to about 8k. Long story short I hit an unmarked speed bump at about 25mph. Anddddd I seem to have bent the frame just behind where the airbags bolt to the frame. No bueno. Has anyone else Seen or heard of anything like this?

Sounds like momentum and weight of the dump trailer 4K im guessing plus loaded weight of 8k transferred to basically over 10k of tongue weight. I could see it possible... Best bet is to take it to a frame repair body shop and fix it out of pocket to prevent a salvage title.

thats borderline if its even able to be repaired, its kinked pretty good and right in a crumple zone in fact, only true and proper repair might possibly be a whole frame replacement

Workshop Manual has a procedure for replacing that section of the frame (if I have identified the correct section from the picture) and a quick check of Tasca Parts shows the rear section is available. It does require welding it to the existing frame and installing reinforcement plates but a good frame repair shop should be able to do this. It won't be inexpensive.

replacing the back half makes it a salvage tittle? I thought it would show frame damage on the car fax. Either way resale value is decreased significantly.

I took it too a body shop and the tech basically told me that they would straighten the frame and reinforce the bent area with some form of steel plate or whatnot. But if that is a crumple zone I would imagine it’s not designed to be straightened. Maybe he didn’t notice that?

I could be wrong but I was under the influence that a salvage title is produced anytime repair cost was more than the vehicle value or frame damage was done, even if it was repairable.

i would imagine that what deems it a salvage tittle would vary from state to state.

This is what i would do, maybe get a second frame shop opinion and estimate.
