I am bought a new 2016 F150 XLT FX4 last week. Three days after I had a flat. First one I have had in probably 5 years. Yesterday morning sitting at a red light I got rear ended. New truck gonna have a new bumper, trailer hitch, and bumper pads. All in all I love my truck, but dang my luck. I filed a claim with lady that hit me insurance company. Besides repaid, rental car and diminished value anything else I need to look out for? Thanks!
Its so important when stopped at a controlled intersection to have a space cushion between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you. Always be alert and watching your rearview mirrors.
Not saying you could've avoided it but sometimes you can prevent accidents or potentially turn a major accident into a minor one.
Next time keep the ball mount on your hitch even when not towing. It'll hurt them a lot more than you. That is if you don't count every time you walk into it busting your shin.
The way I go to work the traffic is horrid. Usually worse in afternoon. Yesterday I had had been stopped for 10 seconds, third in line in light, taking a sip of coffee when WHAM, out of no where I got slammed. Just glad it didn't get up in the bed or frame and no one was hurt.
Flat tire, getting rear ended, both of these have been on my mind since day 1 of getting my truck. To prepare for these realities I keep a hydraulic jack in the truck and I also bought a matching rim for the spare tire. In case I ever need to use it, no one will be able to tell it's spare (a personal pet peeve of mine).
Having been rear ended before, I wanted to change the game. I found this for sale and have bought these impact attenuators for not only myself but my family and friends.
You can read more about it and see photos of the "other" vehicles but at least it's something to absorb the impact of getting hit again.
Not sure how bad the rear end was but check the bed and make sure it didn't get misaligned, the gap between the bed and cabin are good, back up camera works, back up sensors work (after new bumper of course), where the trailer hitch mounts (no cracks or severe stress points), tailgate not misaligned and open/close/lock properly, etc. Kinda hard without a picture but you get the point.
