Default Bed welds?

When I got my truck it had a plastic liner which I had the dealer replace with a spray in.
After getting the truck back I noticed the bed floor has a gap all the way around it, I can see the ground. Same with the wheel wells to side box.
I've never seen a bed that isn't welded together, so is this something new this year or did mine not make it to the welding shop?

It's designed that way. The water has to go somewhere.

Just wondering, every one I've had previous water ran out the tailgate gap like it does with a plastic drop in liner.

You don't weld aluminum.

With the rear end jacked up like it is the bed would have 2 inches of water in the front waiting to run uphill out the back.

Actually it runs out as soon as you go forward like my "97" has been doing since I bought it.

My biggest concern is that the gap will trap gravel or dirt or what ever else I haul back there and wear holes in the panels.

I keep forgetting that I am one of the few around here that uses my truck as a truck.

you mean you haul water right in your bed? lawn watering biz, maybe?

there's a gap at the front on my '13, and it's just fine.

OP, I see what you are saying. I too found it odd that the wheel wells are not better connected to the floor. I have a bed cover, and like it to stay as dry as possible in there. I use this more like a big trunk 95% of the time. I will be sealing those gaps (around the wheel wells) with something that will not harm the spray in liner. Also thinking of getting the tailgate gasket.
