Default Bed Cover Help...PLEASE

Ok, I’ve exhausted the search function and I’m in need of some up to date opinions.

I’m going Monday to get a bed cover finally. Have it narrowed down to the undercover SE or the undercover ultra flex. Obviously these are 2 different styles. But I’m so torn which one to get. Thoughts?

I had the undercover classic on my 2006 f150 and it was a fantastic cover. Though I don’t need full bed access often, it was a pain to remove the cover when I needed to access the bed. On the flip side, it was 100% water tight and the bed was always dry!

The trifold ultra flex looks nice. I love the low profile look and having access to the bed will be nice. I also like having access to the bed without having to open the cover (allowing the tailgate to open). My only concern is water. How dry are these trifold, especially after a few years?

They aren't dry. They don't flood but if you expect dry you'll be disappointed. I just traded the super duty and back in a one fiddy...I'm still trying to figure out what I'm going with this time. The one piece over the lip is as close to waterproof that's offered. I've had the same undercover you had and the clear coat peeled, they didn't stick behind their product so I'm inclined to stay away from them. I had problems with a BakFlip and they sent a new cover. Which makes me lean toward the MX4 or F1 for a flip cover. Other current consideration is an ARE single piece fiberglass cover.

Good luck, lots of choices.

I had an Undercover XL for about 6 months on my 2018 Lariat. No problems so far, Ive not noticed any leaks, and the ruby red is a real close match the truck.

Also, I found a dealer that was close to me, and he was $50 cheaper than the Internet price, plus he installed it for me. The factory had my color in stock and it was at the dealer in a few days.
More than satisfied!

I put a Truxedo Lo Pro on my 2011 FX4 about 2 months ago. I live in SW Fla. and we get plenty of rain here. It stays completely dry. Recently had a tropical storm blow thru that dropped 6" of rain. I think..right around there. Anyway, it stayed dry. Opens with one finger. Takes less than a minute to roll it back, get what you want, and fasten it back down. I love it. It's easy to work with and looks great!! I think ipaid around$350 for mine. Hope that helps.

I really like the Lo Pro on my last truck but didnt like the rail system and how far it stuck up when not using the cover. Great price though.

Properly installed most of the quality hard folding cover such as the BAK MX4, F1...Undercover UltraFlex, Lomax, etc should be about 95% water tight... but as said above when compared to a 1 piece that overlaps the bed you are going to get more water. Really need to decide whats more important, functionality or water tightness.

Most end up preferring functionality because it really isn't much water, but if you are really picky about the being almost 100% dry then you may want to stick with what you know...

Feel free to PM me with any questions you might have...

I had the Classic 1 pc undercover on my old truck too and loved it and i went through 8 winters with that thing. I went the Trifold this time and got the mx4 and so far its been good but i also know this wont be water tight like a 1 pc is. The convenience of being able to just flip up a panel on larger loads has been amazing though and even removing it by myself is super easy.

Luke my Bakflip VP is still awesome. Besides the fact 4 times now someone has tried to peel up the corner thinking it was a soft roll-up style. some contact cement and a clamp overnight and its good.
I use 303 aerospace on it about every 3 months and it looks like new. the latching hardware is another animal though. have to keep them lubed with garage door lube or they seize due to this coastline living.
I get on average about 1/4 cup of water in a good rain. I also have the ultimate tailgate seal. it helps some but the bends ford uses around the gate are just retarded.

Thanks again for your great service
