Default Bed to cab distance

I want to start off by saying that I believe this forum has greatly increased my attention to detail....and it is driving me crazy.

I went into my dealership to take delivery on my new lariat screw but noticed the bed distance to the cab on the driver's side was noticeably greater than the passenger side. So, I took out my measuring tape (yeah, thanks forum..Ha ha) and it was 1 inch from top of bed to cab on driver's side and only 5/8 inch on the passenger side.

I then got up into the bed and looked down at the gap and is was even more noticeable. I then checked about 10 other 2015s and none had this problem. They were all nice and snug up to the cab.

I just now, as I was typing this got a call from my sales guy who said he was asking around after I left and another sales guy said he had seen this on an f250 about a month ago and the service folks found a loose bolt. They tightened it and it pulled the bed and cab into proper alignment.

I'll check with them on Monday and if all is well, will close the deal and take it home. Sucks.. Oh and in between yesterday when I saw it after it was taken to the detail shop and this morning, someone dinged the driver's side door. Small dent...said they would get the dent guy to fix it on Thursday. I was too disgusted to get any pictures...

What a let down....Or am I being too picky?

Most of the time I say that people on here are too picky. Many coming from a luxury car to their first truck and so on....

But a 1" vs 5/8" gap is way out. The bed should be adjusted.

I bet you that if Ford found a way to shut this forum down, their warranty / body shop claims would go down significantly

but I agree, if it bothers you it should be corrected.

This is a very easy fix. Just back off the bolts and adjust the bed.

The story the sales person told you about the F250 was a lie. These have 6 to 8 bed bolts, one loose bolt would not change the bed to cab gap.

I just realized that because I have the ford factory spray in bed liner, this may complicate fixing this.

And i would like to add that this seems to be a common problem With all pickup truck makers.
My 2005 dodge had the box incorrectly aligned with the cab....and so did my 2013 chevy.
I do not understand how the tech doing the pdi misses this.
My chevy was so bad i saw it from well back when walking up to the truck. The box very visibly stuck out on the passengers side.
Maybe the techs should get a vision test as part of the hiring process.

Thanks for the feedback.

Dealer called and said the service department will take pictures and submit the issue to Ford on Monday. I asked if they had the spray in bed liner material that the factory uses. He said no, they would have to use what they had. Probably won't match, but that's acceptable, although I want as close to factory as possible. Sales guy also said that when the dealer sprays in the liner (or whoever they get to do it), they don't cover the mounting bolts. I'm pretty sure Ford does though.

Another thing...man I'm picky...the truck arrived with about 10 miles on it yesterday (around 5pm) and when I drove it this morning (around 10am) it had over 24. The dealer lot is not that large and the gas tank was nearly empty, so I know they didn't run it to the gas station. I'm wondering how many are going to be put on it by the time the bed is fixed...

Because I know y'all are on the edge of your seats wanting to know how this all plays out, I'll update on Monday. Ha ha!

Default Update...

Dealership sales guy called today and said their service department is sending pictures to Ford so the work will be covered. He then told me that the service department was going to strip the factory spray in liner material completely, remove the bolts, align the bed, re bolt then re spray the bed with their material. I then asked if he meant they were going to strip the liner material from the bolt heads only so they could then be removed...he said no, the complete bed. He said that the new liner material would not stick to the existing material, and this is why it had to be removed.

So, perhaps I'm still not understanding, or I just don't want to believe that removing 6 bolts would warrant stripping then re spraying the entire bed. I think I'll just wait it out and hope for the best.

Exclamation

On the matter of "attention to detail" .....

Not sure about the 2015 F-150 bed bolts, but on the gen'12 they are TTY (Torque To Yield).

MEANING: The should be replaced (and NOT reused). And BTW ... They t'ain't cheap.
