Default Battery replacement (AGM and BMS)

I have read the threads on batteries... but still not clear on some things.

1) My 2016 Lariat 3.5 Eco with tech, has a BXT-94RH7-730. I can get a PepBoys Champion AGM 850 CCA for about the same price as regular battery with 4 year warranty. Is there ANY drawback or issue replacing my OEM with the AGM? Does my vehicle support AGM charging or do only the 2.7 with S/S that came with AGM from factory fully support AGM charging?

2) I am clear on how to do the Forscan BMS reset. Is there anything else I will need to change in Forscan to tell my vehicle that the battery is now an AGM type?

Thank you!

If you are switching to an AGM from a flooded cell, you should also change the battery type in the BMS to properly charge that new AGM battery. Here is the list. Probably 02 would be your best bet.

Excellent.. That was what I was looking to find out.

So, I assume that all 2016 Lariat 502's have the charging system that supports AGM or regular battery, correct? Not just the 2.7 S/S versions?

The ability of your truck to properly charge an AGM battery is only dependent on the BMS settings. With the correct battery type, yes, your truck will properly charge your AGM.

I thought all the 13th gens had AGMs from the factory. I didn’t realize some models weren’t using them.

At least for MY2016, Lariat and below got FLA unless it had a 2.7L, then it got AGM due to Auto-Start/Stop. Not sure about above Lariat. Also for MY2016, only 2.7L had A-S/S.

I'm on my 4th AGM battery with four different family vehicles over last 6 years. All still going great.

I'll never use non AGM type again in automobiles/trucks.
