LOL

Resetting the BMS is like the cheat code for Double Dragon 2 on the NES (dating myself here)

It's essentially an Engineering cheat code that enables you to do it without going to the dealer and paying them to do it with their scanner/computer. I'm old enough to predate computers and video games. First video game I ever played was Pong. I was good enough to play it on expert mode where the paddle was as small as it would go.

Thanks for the advice.

Swapped it our for another lead-acid battery

did the BMS reset (though I thought I counted 4 blinks instead of 3) and then locked from door panel and sitting in garage until morning

Ready to roll tomorrow

That’s surprising that your 2016 Lariat has a lead acid battery in it. I have a 2016 Lariat 2.7 and it has an AGM battery.

Just for a cross check, I went to Rock Auto for 2016 3.5 Ecoboost.

All of there listed batteries are AGM.

Maybe someone switched batteries on it somewhere in its life?

unless it has A/S/S as on your 2.7, the AGM is not required.

I double checked. It wasn't AGM

Here is the photo before I took it out

I looked everywhere on it and checked the part number. Didn't see it AGM anywhere

For 2016 F150, only the 2.7 Ecoboost had the AGM battery, per the Motorcraft part numbers. The rest of the powertrains, such as the OP's engine, had lead-acid batteries.

For 2017 F150, the 2.7 Ecoboost and 3.5 Ecboost had AGM batteries with the rest lead-acid.

By 2018, all powertrains in the F150 had the AGM.

This is per the Ford manual and should be mostly accurate but, as with anything, it's subject to the usual errors or update discrepancies.

Just to straighten out nomenclature. An AGM is still a lead acid battery. A flooded lead acid battery is another form of lead acid battery.

Personally, it is worth the extra money to replace with an AGM.
