Default Battery Replacement

Guys,can I replace my battery myself or do I need to bring it to Ford for some sort of re-programming after I replace it.I have a 2020 2.7

You can do it yourself. Just look in owners manual for how to reset the BMS

If a 2020 it is under warranty for 3/36

So do that. For the first one. Did that on my 16 exploder. Wifey killed the batter in 18 months because she leaves her purse in the car over night.

If you have intelligent access keep you key fob away from the car overnight. If near enough the car stays in stand by mode

True story: (2 months ago) my fairly new battery failed so here in Canada I deal with Canadian Tire Corp..... They have a store + auto services in almost every town in all provinces so warranty is a no issue !!......I called up my local store auto service....Yes sir it is under warrenty but you will have to bring it in & we will do a battery/alternator & starter test to get your warranty....I did that....Went to pick it up & $155.00 later I left with a new battery & good to go !! Check Labour +50 bucks to install a new battery that I could have done myself....AS I paid the bill I said to the service writer So if I had brought in the old battery & slapped it on the parts counter & they checked it as bad I would have got a free replacement battery ...He said yes sir !! I paid a total of $155.00 for a free warranty battery that I paid $145.00 a year ago !!
Case & point learned they don't work for free !! @ the stealership labour rate a battery install would likely be $75..00
If you can change your own battery you will save monies!!

I replaced my battery on my 2016. Put my trickle charger on the cables, disconnected and swapped the battery and removed the charger. No problems.

I believe I'm right in saying your method did not reset the age /condition of your older battery so it will be maintaining the stored charging info for a much older battery !!

Everyone gets bent out of shape about the BMS. I’ll leave this quote from stormsearch here, this was posted in another thread.

Ensure the battery light flashes after doing the procedure. I could not provide this detail earlier as it was not public information. There is much more to the BMS operation, differences between MY's and vehicle lines that I can provide. I have stopped sharing information because it can lead to false presumptions.

Another item that I have tested was the BMS able to learn on its own a new battery has been installed. There are algorithms in the BMS for the more likely case that a consumer replaces their own battery and not perform a reset. It is not an exact timeframe, but around the 3 week mark after replacing with a new battery, the BMS will know a new battery has been installed and will reset. Note, testing was only conducted with as built batteries. Replacing with another type of battery may delay or incorrectly set a different of the actual battery.

The one advantage of performing a reset are for vehicles that have the "Vehicle Shutting Down to preserve Battery" message. If the BMS reset is not immediately performed with a new battery, the BMS will continue to protect thinking the old battery is installed.

I want to end by saying, Ford requires the dealer to perform a BMS reset as we pay for the replacement cost and warranty that work. We don't require a consumer, auto parts store or anybody else to perform the reset. In the big scheme of things, performing a BMS reset is minuscule to how the battery was manufactured, lot rot, vehicle drive conditions, vehicle issues, added equipment and maintenance. I replaced my OEM battery with a non-OEM, same size H6 AGM from Napa. I chose that battery due to the mfger. I did not perform a BMS reset. It is simply not that important.

I used this process to reset the BMS. The little battery pic on my dash flashed 3 times after doing this.
