Default Battery Drain

A few weeks ago I was sitting at my son's soccer practice listening to the radio with the engine off. After about 20 minutes I thought maybe ought to start it. Little sluggish but fired up. After about 3-5 minutes I shut it off thinking that was enough. Listened to the radio about 15 minutes then practice was over so I tried to start it and the starter was clicking. Got a jump from another parent and was on the road. Literally a 20 second jump. Few days later I was headed to work and got a call on bluetooth. Arrived in the parking lot, shut truck off and continued to talk through Bluetooth. That afternoon truck was dead again. Quick jump and I'm good. Truck does fine if I get out and don't listen to anything but even just a few minutes and it won't start. Load tested battery after driving and it was fine. Battery is one year old with a five year guarantee. Had anyone else had this issue? 5.0 102000 miles.

I read about several people doing that. Some people said after a year or so their battery needed to be charged often? That seems crazy to me.

Measure you battery voltage an hour after you have turned the engine off and report back.

I did a bit ago. It was 12.6 after an hour. Checked to make sure I didn't have a parasitic draw also. After 30 minutes it was 0. First 20 or so was 30 milliamps. It seems to just be the radio and Bluetooth maybe that just kills the battery.

I put a new battery on at two years and it still runs down..I think Ford says the cure is to drive it more.

Then your battery has failed.

Personally, I replaced mine with an Odyssey after 5 years. Original battery was still probably good for another year but we drive a lot through the country so wanted a new battery.

If the alternator has a random issue charging, failing part, how did you duplicate that for your testing?
