For power I tapped into the Green/Brown wire located at the back harness. This wire is for backup lights.
I wonder if Ford changed anything recently. got a 2017 XL (STX) with 8" Screen. Its all setup using your instructions. but, green/brown wire in the harness looks like its for brakes. Camera comes on anytime I hit the brakes. so either I tapped the wrong green/brown wire or the harness is different

edit: It was starting to get dark so maybe I tapped into the wrong wire. Looks like there are 3 green/brown wires

1 on the left and 1 on the right of the harness and another one in the middle. I'm guessing the one in the middle is what I need to tap?

Cheers. Much easier than one would expect and certainly not worth paying Ford the $800 they wanted nor the $1000 CarToys wanted to add it to my mirror.

Thats about what I spent as well. I went with a license plate mount with intentions of later upgrading to the factory handle mount location. Will probably end up leaving it where it is because it’s working out nicely.

Where did you mount your camera?

The two wires for the power tailgate lock splits off into another harness (shown in pink) that goes to the gate.

So I am not sure if I am pre-wired or not but it seems I could just tap into the blue harness for the camera connection assuming that I am tracing the right wires in the first place! This is a '15 XL with 4.2" non nav display FWIW.

I have a 2016 F150 XL..exact same set up...does this mean I am prewired for back up camera? May I plug into this receptacle? Thanks in advance.
