Lots of options to choose from. Different halogen bulbs, LED bulbs, replacement tail light assemblies, light bar that fits under the tailgate, lights that attach at the hitch receiver, lights that can be attached to your bumper, whatever you want. There is no best. Go crazy with whatever you want. Also, what kind of vehicle we working with here? 2022 F150 or 1960 Cadillac or 1998 Tacoma?
I have been seeing these pop up ads for super bright reverse lights and iirc, they are supposed to be some super bright bulb which replaces the oem bulb, at least thats the impression I got without going to their web site. I figured why waste time going to their site as it sounded too good to be true.
I will pay attention the next time I see it and try to post again what it is. Hopefully this will happen within the next week.
I haven't used them, but based on my experience with other Diode Dynamics products, I'd strongly suspect that their solutions are either the best or damn near it. I want to add some flush mount lights to my rear bumper, and their plug and play kit looks by far the most appealing I've seen in terms of functionally and quality (unfortunately, those two things seem to be directly opposed to appealing pricing).
All you have to do to power the lights in reverse is connect to the 7 pin trailer >Center pin lead< on the socket back side, and ground the lights.
The 7 Pin socket comes out of the bumper hole by squeezing the side lugs.
I would not fool with putting larger lamps in the taillight housings.
One or two high intensity >Floods< will do the job for 100 feet to the rear.
I'm a big fan of Diode Dynamics and their backup light kit did not disappoint. You can set them to on, on with reverse, and off. They sell a harness for our trucks that also lets them act as parking lights when the main light isn't being used. Installation was a little involved, but not too bad. They sell a version that bolts on under the bumper too, if you don't want to cut into your bumper.
