Automatic High Beams
How do I know if i have this feature and is it something I have to activate in settings somewhere? I drive a lot at night and never see the high beams come on without me turning them on. My mirror appears to have the sensor on the back of it.... Thanks
What year and trim truck do you have? You can look in the advanced options on the IPC and see if there is a setting for them.
Push the right side lever forward. If a high beam indicator with an A in it under your analog speedometer lights up, you have it. May have to press the lever twice within a second or so to get the auto beam mode.
I don't know if 302a includes that, but the check mark would be available in some advanced menu screen. I can't remember where, but if you go through the menus you'll find it if it's there.
In order to activate it, you would have turn it on in the menu (maybe it is on by default?). I purchased my truck used and it was on already.
Next i to turn your headlight dial to 'auto'.
If switch is in auto, and the check mark is on, the highbeams function automatically given the correct conditions.
I know many don't seem to like it, but for me, that is the one and only 'AUTO' setting I like.
I never turn my headlight switch to auto except for at night when I want the auto brights to function.
I do not use it the same as many others here. I leave a mountain bike trail a dark and I used it to drive on on the unlit roads. They enable and isable perfectly with oncoming traffic. Once in a great while it will catch a reflection and momentarily switch off but it's brief....like a bright reflection from the back side of a road sign.
Once I get into the populated area I will switch back to 'on' mode with the headlight switch as now I'll be following cars, there will be more cars coming at me or there are plenty of street lights.
I've used them fairly rarely other than that.
A friend has my twin truck...he mentioned something about the feature and I never knew such a thing existed.
I purchased my truck 53 weeks ago. It was dark driving home. I thought I saw a flicker a time or two...yep, my truck has auto brights. It took a while to dawn on me that that is what was happening. The sales guy had my light dial set to auto for me (thinking I wanted auto of course). I did not know how to make them work at first, then eventually learned to switch dial to auto.
Good luck! If you have the feature I hope you enjoy it like me. I have not yet encountered the issues that seem to be fairly common with them not really functioning very well.
I must be a target user as I don't think I've been affected by the minimum and maximum speed limit they function within.

Well i don't have auto high beams on my XLT but i do on my Jeep GC.
Got a love/hate thing with it.
It works alright in extremely dark skies but when some oncoming Ahole with their brights on, i can't flash them while in auto mode.
And the auto brights come on way too late in dusk conditions for deer country around here.
Maybe Ford's auto dims are better.

My thoughts EXACTLY. Just another gimmick to sell you. I tried it for a few days, and quickly turned it off.
I've had my Auto-Dimming on for 4 years now. Now that I'm retired, and with Covid, I'm finding I drive mostly in the city. I'm always surprised when, on the odd occasion, my high beams illuminate. In my truck, I feel they work perfectly. Then again, I think my rain sensing auto-wipers work extremely well when most people complain about them.
