Default Automatic Climate Control

Up until recently the AC indicator would go off below about 54F, and would come back on above about 54F. Now, I have to manually turn the AC ON or OFF. The outside thermometer is working properly, so I suspect the Automatic Climate Control AC has a different outside temp sensor. Can anybody verify this, and tell me where this temp sensor is located?

Thank you!

Here is the block diagram for the DATC. I only see the AAT which is the Ambient Air Temperature sensor, the same sensor that displays on your centre screen.

From the WSM:

Ambient Air Temperature (AAT) Sensor

The Ambient Air Temperature (AAT) sensor is an input to the PCM. If the outside air temperature is below approximately 0°C (32°F), the PCM does not allow the A/C compressor clutch to engage. The PCM sends raw ambient air temperature data to the FCIM. The FCIM filters the raw data, sends it to the APIM and the touchscreen displays the outside temperature.

After replacing an Ambient Air Temperature (AAT) sensor, the sensor data must be reset by either driving the vehicle at speeds consistently about 20 MPH for at least 5 minutes to update the filtered data or perform the multiple button press reset procedure to update to the current raw value.

The multiple button reset for the Ambient Air Temperature (AAT) sensor is as follows:
  • On the HVAC panel controls, press the A/C and Recirc buttons simultaneously, then, release both.
  • Within 2 seconds press the A/C button again.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The AAT is behind the front grille.
Thank you! It might be another problem other than the ambient temp sensor.
Here is where the AAT is located.
Try the multi-button reset in post #3. Can't hurt.
Thanks again for the information! The AC indicator on the climate control panel would go on or off at about 54F, as I previously stated. When it was off, I could manually turn it back on, even below 32F, so I think it's possible for the AC indicator to be on, but the AC compressor remain off.
The A/C Compressor will cycle on/off at any time. This has been a standard feature for many years. It keeps the compressor properly lubricated by circulating some refrigerant through the compressor. This happens even when it is really cold.
Thank you for the information!
I did notice one other thing today, and I don't know if it is related to the Climate Control AC. Normally my coolant temp digital readout will vary between 199 and 205, irregardless of ambient temp. Today, I noticed it going as high as 215, and then would drop back, which it has never done before.
