This is what I did as well with no regrets and it doesn't cost anything, twice my truck has quit rolling up to a stop with an error showing on the display that A.S.S. (a good short form) has malfunctioned and you have to stop the truck in a live lane, put it in park and re-start the engine. I don't miss it one bit just remember to plug it in when you want to tow something or you won't have tail lights on the trailer.
