my auto start stop doesn't work if it's hot in the cab anyway. once it's cooled off it will kick in and the ac keeps blowing. I remember one time it kicked back on while still stopped, it didn't get hot, but there was a temp change. we've had a few 90+ degree days around here recently. Didn't have them all summer, but end of september, why not

Over 2.5 years and 77k on my 2.7. I never disable the stop-start, and my battery and starter are just fine. Still starts up like it's a new truck. Happy with it so far. And I love that I'm not just sitting at a red light burning gas for no reason.

In 2.5 years, you get about 650 work days (M-F). Take away holidays, let's say 600. Every work day I hit between 10-15 red lights (to and from work). Lets call it 12. Each red light I sit for an average of 2 minutes.

2 minutes, 12 times a day, 24 minutes. 24 minutes per work day for 600 days is 14,400 minutes of idling that I've saved the engine. Or, 240 hours of just idling, doing nothing. And that's NOT including any weekend driving, that's only Monday-Friday!

Seems worth it to me.

Agreed. I don't have any issues with it. I usually remember to hit the button the first time I come to a complete stop on the 65 MPH freeway going to work.

Probably saves gas, but the EPA mileage ratings are done with it disabled. Overall, I don't get why so many people are so upset about it.

Because they are stuck in the old days when starters would die and cars didn't start as quickly as our trucks do today.
I tend to keep my cars for a long time and the only ones that I had to replace a starter on were 65 Impala and 67 Olds Toronado both with well over 100k on the clock. 85 dodge van had 235k and original starter.

I'm always surprised to see how many people are throwing arguments without merit. The F150s equipped with Auto S/S come with heavy duty starters & batteries along with other parts.

A starter should last for most of the vehicle's life. However, sh*t happens and you could be stuck to change it - it also applies for any non auto S/S equipped car.

A battery has a lifespan of 4-5 years. You're lucky if you go beyond that. I already see you guys coming with your ''my buddie's car had the original battery that lasted 12 years blablabla'' argument. Good for them! They got lucky.

This feature might be more demanding on these parts, but Ford (as well as other car makers) have compensated by reinforcing them. Plus, having our engines off during traffic light waiting periods clearly saves $.

How many? It depends on your driving habits.

That's Webster's definition of social media...

What blows my mind is the mindless drivel that people are driven to post about on the internet - of all types. Especially when linking to sites that post totally crap. They should spend their time READING to gain knowledge, instead of coming on a forum and asking questions answered in their manual or 500 times on the forum.

"Hey, I just noticed after 3 years that my spare tire is a different size..." - So who's been putting air in it every 6 months?

Did you guys think that maybe this isn't just to save fuel, but to save the harshness of idling for long periods of time on the breakdown of oil by shearing from fuel contamination causing more engine wear over time?

The turbos, like all modern turbos nowadays, are both oil AND water cooled.

Could be. All I know is that I like it because it's saved me 240+ hours (probably easily 300+) of idling, saving me both from wasting fuel and engine wear.

And not adding to the pollution.
