Auto start?
When did Ford add auto start to the F150? What I mean by auto start is that you don't have to hold the ignition switch in the crank position, just bump it all the way clockwise to crank, and immediately let go, and it will continue to crank until it starts automatically. I know Toyota had this feature on some of their Tundra models with the 4.7 V8 when they first came out, but didn't know Ford had it. I don't really see an explanation of it in the owners manual either. I found this out when my fingers slipped, and let the switch back from the crank position, and it started anyway. I was kind of puzzled, so the next time I started it, I just bumped it to crank, and then let go, and it does indeed crank until it starts automatically. Anybody else on here know anything about this?

Explanation:
You have been removed from the equation entirely regarding the starting and stopping of the engine. The starter is disengaged at a much lower rpm than humans tend to recognize a started engine (reduced starter and battery wear), and the starter cannot be engaged after the engine is started (no more destroyed starter gears). You also cannot flood an engine by depressing the gas pedal while starting.
Same with shutting it off. You are not removing power from the PCM, you are just sending a shutdown request. The PCM shuts down the engine and all modules, in whatever order is deemed necessary.
Pretty much a requirement to be able to implement ***, and also provides the backbone for Remote Start.
