Default Auto-open tailgate

I think I have a good question, and don't want to find out the hard way. Will it open even if it will hit an object???

Yes. Others have posted here how somehow the tailgate was inadvertently opened without knowing while in a garage. Hit the button to open garage door and hear it banging on the partially open tailgate as the door goes up.

Interesting. Is there a way to prevent the FOB from opening the tailgate? If the tailgate is locked, does it take more than a push of the FOB button to lower it?

It can be disabled in FORScan.

Put a topper on, then it can't open on it's own. Found that out the hard way Had my hands full, hit the button and nothing. Then realized, DOH, the topper door has a lip preventing the tailgate from opening.

Considering my backup sensor go off when I'm about to back over a large dandelion, I wonder why they didn't make some warning or override for remote opening the tailgate. Or do the higher trim levels not have the rear bumper backup sensors?

It will if you take off fast enough,,, mine did anyway.. Now make it a habit to check in the mirror that the tailgate is actually up when driving..

OOh thats gottta hurt! that lip is cheap plastic on mine. I would be able to see if the tailgate is unlatched though since I walk past it every time I get in the truck. It will move out a 1/4" and hold.

Mine does that also,,, but didn't notice it as I walk up to the side of the truck not coming from the back. Wife had asked me to open the tailgate with the fob the night before as she was going to load some stuff in the back.. She didn't so tailgate wasn't latched just held by caps lip. Till I took off fast.. Luckily didn't lose anything that I noticed,,,, anyway..
