Default Auto High Beam issue

My auto high beams initially worked great. They would turn off and off faster than I could do it. And then they became intermittent. Now it seems they rarely turn themselves on.

Dealer was unsure how to even test. Has anyone else had any problems with their auto high beams?

I recall reading in the manual, or somewhere, that the auto highbeam system uses a sensor/camera in the rear-view mirror mount on the windshield. Make sure that the windshield is clean, and that the sensor or camera, whichever it is, is also clean. That would be my first guess.

I'm not sure when or how they are suppose to work. Mine just started working one morning @ about 3200 miles. I haven't read the manual on them so not sure. Noticed they switch on off @ 30mph. I thought maybe it has to do how they are initially used when first start driving that day. I don't like the 30mph thing.

I assure you they are not designed to turn off at higher speeds. The auto high beams works very well for me at 70mph. It does not work where there is even a bit of city lighting.

I would assume that they would be tested by repeatedly covering/uncovering the windshield sensor with something dark and noting what happens.

I'd also try the lane departure system that (presumably) uses the same windshield camera to see if there's anything odd about it's function.

Is the windshield dirty?

Only work above 30 something MPH.

I haven't had any issues with mine. It works remarkably well.

Well, yes, you'd have to drive the truck down the road a few times and maybe have an assistant.
