Default AGM Battery

Ordered a AGM battery that is used with the 2.7 trucks for my 3.5na truck. Increases CCA from 650 to 800. I always changed batteries to the Sears platinum AGM (a rebadged Odyssey) in the past to eliminate terminal corrosion and it was just a better battery overall. Sears discontinued the line recently. The positive and negative terminals are switched from past locations so I can't use one of my extra batteries I have that had a 950 CCA rating. Odyssey makes one that is 800 CCA with the proper terminal location specified for a King ranch 2.7 for 2016 with auto start stop. I just ordered a Ford one made by Johnson Controls. $180. Why? -- well just because. I have been impressed by the AGM batteries I have had in the past. Some are 8 years old and have been run completely dead numerous times by my employees in my trucks. I can fully recharge one in less than 30 minutes without damage. I have tried Optimas in the past, but they just dont live as long. There is a video on youtube that shows how Odyssey batteries are made in Warrensburg MO -- cool how it is done.

So you replace a perfectly good battery and spend $180 on a new one, just because? Wow.

I get 6-8 years out of the original batteries in my cars. Why on earth replace them early?

I also upgraded the battery due to additional stereo components that were added to the system - amp & sub. While I couldn't justify the expense of the AGM battery, I did install the 730 CCA OEM battery

Probably same reason people replace perfectly good rims and tires. Personal preference.

old batteries get used in old equipment like forklifts, generators, and other machinery around here. I also have 20 employees who are more than happy to have them and put them to use. Chicago sometimes has temps -15 F to - 20 F in the winter and with my truck parked outside all night and nobody is going to help me in the morning but myself then I prepare for the worst. I also carry 2 extra 950 cca AGM batteries with a charger and generator in case one of my diesels needs to get back to the shop on battery power alone. If you have a 2.7 then you already have the better battery. I was just trying to be like you. Others here take perfectly good tires and wheels and change them right away.... I'm sure the old ones were perfectly fine also... so they must just have too much money to spend also I guess, besides I have 25,000 miles on mine already. If you can get 8 years out of a stock battery then good for you. I usually only get 2 years up here and by then the stock ones are a corroded mess.

"Up here" in Edmonton Alberta, we see temps as low as -40 (-40 is the same in C & F). The OEM battery has always started my vehicles. The wife always got the garage, so I have been parking outdoors for 13 years.

If it is going to be colder than -40, I will plug in the block heater.

Anyway, I am not criticizing how you spend your money. I just don't think it is a necessary change.

People seem real concerned how other people spend their money on this forum. A whole thread on being polite to Chad the service rep and then we have people being dicks to a guy because he upgraded his battery and others think he shoudn't have....bizzar

Just think of how much $$$ we're putting back into the economy. If it wasn't for folks like us Ford probably would have needed a bailout like Chrysler & GM and the country would probably be in an economic depression.
