Default Apple/Android Car play

I have been researching how to do this in my truck. Currently do not have car play, and am wanting to add it to my truck. I have a 2016 Super crew, FX4 Sport. Car play was apparently just after my truck was manufactured. I have SYNC 3 version 3.0.23219. I have read that if i just upgrade my USB ports to H3CZ-19A387-B, i will be prompted to have car play.

Since my truck is still under the purchase warranty, I do not want to manually add 3.4. i still have about a year left for the warranty.

Can anyone confirm just updating the USB's to H3CZ-19A387-B, will give me car play?

Thank you

My truck is an XLT with Sport package, production date 11/15. I used a thumb drive and downloaded the update from Ford, and did the update procedure as per the instructions. I didn't have to change my USB port at all. Android Auto works great, and I even put in an AAWireless dongle so it works wirelessly.

I would do the update and try it. If it doesn't work, I doubt changing a factory part for a factory part is going to void any warranty, and who's going to check unless you damage something in the process.

My truck was a September build and the USB's do not have the car play function, which is why i need to upgrade them.

I am not looking to go to 3.4, just looking to see if the USB upgrade will give me the car play option since I have Sync 3 and a higher version than 2.2

No, it won't. You need to update the software. Get the highest update Ford has. https://www.ford.com/support/sync-maps-updates/

I agree with needing to update the software, but my actual point was that the first few posts, mainly the diagram walks you through your current setup and where you'd like to end up...including part numbers. Guess you didn't read that far.

Updating the Sync software is not a warranty voiding issue, unless you don't follow the instructions and brick something. Just saying.

I am updated through the Ford site... the official software. The diagram states if there is a warranty do not perform the update but follow the official update... either way I will need to update the USB's, but if I do not want to update to 3.4, I am asking if i could still have car play because the new USB's have the chip to ativate car play.... where my current USB's do not have that.... they are media only....

Yes, it "should" work. If it doesn't, use Cyanlabs to update to 3.4. They use legit Ford files, just newer than what the Ford site will show for your truck.

If you do the update from Ford, it may work anyways. As I said, my truck didn't need any hardware changes and yours isn't very far back from mine in production dates. I think my truck was actually on software that hadn't been updated since 2019 until I did the software update.
