I may be wrong but I believe you have to change it all and there is some wiring or wire harness

The part number you supplied is for Sync 2/MFT.

You need a Sync 3 screen as well as the APIM if you’re trying to upgrade to Sync 3. The screens between Sync 2/MFT and Sync 3 are not interchangeable.

As far as physically dropping in, you need to take the brackets mounted to the Sync 2/MFT screen and swap them to the Sync 3 screen; the assembly then goes into place and uses the same connector as Sync 2. You also need a separate GPS antenna for a Sync 3 setup.

The VIN number is pulled from other modules and does not need to be programmed. You may, however, need to use Forscan to adjust the APIM As-Built to match features of your particular truck.

Yes, Sync 2 and Sync 3 screens use different technologies and connect to the APIM separately. Sync 3 APIMs have small round connectors on one side that are used for the GPS connection and connecting to the screen, whereas Sync 2 APIMs have a connection point on the rear side to mate to the screen. Google Sync 3 APIM and MFT APIM to see the differences.

Chances are are you will also not find a Sync 3 APIM for $100 if the scrapyard knows what they have.
