Anyway to disable tailgate locking on a 2017?
I've had my truck for about a month now and the one complaint that just drives me nuts is the tailgate locks with the door locks. Numerous times now i've went to open the tail gate and its locked and i have to go back to the door and hit the button to unlock the doors.
I like that there is a lock should I have something back there I want to lock up but most of the time that isn't the case.
Is there anyway to get around that?

based off the wiring diagrams the doors/tailgate are all tied into the same wire. with the exception of the driver door that has two wires to be able to operate on its own or with the other doors. So i think the only way to disable it would be to disconnect the tailgate wiring or add a switch to manually cut the power.

Can't you also disengage Auto Lock? I know the doors won't be locked this way... but the tailgate won't be locked either.

I guess I would just unplug the wire harness going to the tail gate and that should stop it for good.

pull the fob out and unlock it like we did before smart keys were a thing? you don't have to go back to the driver door.

Remove the tailgate face plate and maybe remove the lock pin/actuator? I'm just guessing. Somebody here had a pic of the tailgate with the face plate off. Maybe you could look into that first to see what you may be up against.

I'm assuming OP has an XL or an XLT, gets out to open the tailgate with the keys in the ignition and then they're not with him. This would require him going back to the door.
If I were you, I'd leave it alone. But, if you're determined to disable the feature of it locking with the doors. Track down the wire in the tailgate that activates the lock, and cut it off. It will stop locking with the doors, but will still lock/unlock with the key inserted into the handle. However, if you have a Lariat, you will just have to suck it up, or delete the locking altogether as there is not a key hole.
