Uh. This drives me nuckin futs. Steel will tear too.

I am a Paintless Dent Repair technician and work on Aluminum & steel cars.

I HANDS DOWN HATE ALUMINUM TO WORK ON. its 10 times tuffer to push dents out of Aluminum then Steel. The aluminum is stronger then steel and takes way more effert to move the Aluminum.

Also, Aluminum has been used for car and truck hoods since the 80s.

That stupid Chevy commercial rips aluminum while the Silverado in the commercial has an aluminum hoood on it. All chevy 07+ 1500s have aluminum hoods just like Dodge 1500s. Very few cars have steel hoods and a lot of manufacturers are switching to aluminum. Top of the line Audi A8s are All aluminum and have been.

AL is the future.

Yeah, funny how the talk in the background was about how awful it would be in an accident yet the new F150 has the best crash test rating of any other pickup truck.

The RAM 1500 is comprised of about 45% aluminum itself, but you don't hear anything about that. In 2019 the GM's will be comprised of about 75%-80% aluminum.....they stuck their foot in their mouths by ripping aluminum. One piece of the GM that better not be aluminum is the bed, as much ripping on Ford as they did about that.

I can't wait to see the fun Ford has with GM when they come out with aluminum bodies. I believe it's going to happen in the next year model.

Government Motors best marketing campaign has been to slander their way into a sale through crude unrealistic tests. While using baited, naive, and inept consumers who still have the fish hook in their mouth. With keywords being utilized like cost and cool, and "this is nice".
Yeah, great campaign.

That video is pointless. I could rip a steel body just that. People make it seem like the entire truck is made of aluminum.

- It's only the body, not the frame. Chevy makes fun of aluminum but yet, there're going there in the next few years (claiming to have an aluminum body, but still have a steal bed...we'll see).
- Ford achieved a 5 star crash rating, Chevy only got 4 ( but what happened to being crushed like a soda can)?
- Aluminum is more tedious to work on, but it's a trade off for being lighter. Ford took a gamble and it paid off. Now the competition is following.

I dont think Ford will bash GM if the make the AL switch. Thats just not Fords style. When your at the top, you dont need to bash anyone.

When your #1 your competition tells everyone. Bc the #1 is the only one the competition compares themselves too.

RAM is pulling away from GM as well bc Ram commercial dont bash anyone. Ram shows work being done on their adds just like Ford.

GM advertises an image(aka sizzle but no steak)
None of GMs commercials show their trucks doing work.

Everyone complains about the aluminum outside. The aluminum isn't protecting you from an impact. It's just for looks on the outside of the truck. Think about how thin the steel panels are, they're not protecting you in the event of a collision. That's what the substructure of the cab is responsible for. I believe the cab structure is all still steel, but don't quote me on that.

In GMs trucks the fenders are actually structural. If the fenders are removed from a slvrado/siera the only thing left is the radiator core support & frame rails down low. Theres no separate inner structure behind the fenders. Kinda scary in my book.
