Anyone regret getting the 3.5 Ecoboost and wish they could trade for a 5.0?

Im sure Ford dials in the throttle response to make the eb's feel stronger at low end and some complain that the 5.0 lacks. Its all in the throttle tuning which an electronic throttle controller will take care of. My friend has a 3.5 eb and after he drove my 5.0 with the throttle commander he was shocked how much stronger the 5.0 was down at the bottom over his truck. Then I turned it off. He could not believe it was the same truck.. His 3.5 felt stronger again. This lazy throttle down on the bottom on the 5.0's can be dialed out with a tune of a throttle controller.

I had a 2.7 eco that I traded for my current 3.5 eco. I was going to get the 5.0, but after the test drive it felt exactly like the 2.7 except the off idle response was way better. I have no interest in the gen I or gen II 5.0 in a truck. I haven't driven the current 5.0 yet, but I'm leaning toward it again because the drivability of my current 3.5 isn't the greatest IMO. My thinking is the improvements that were made to the gen III 5.0 has now gave it the edge over the 3.5 eco.

Check out the TQ and HP curves of the Ford truck engines.
With a tune that actually puts the pedal response where it should be, you wont be saying the same thing about the EB. The Ford strategy is meant to boost fuel efficiency over performance, hence Sport mode. The EB starts pushing TQ at 1500 RPM, then hits the top at 2000 and stays there til around 4000, then drops like a rock, so gearing plays a large part in it as well. Drive a tuned one with 3.15 gearing and you will not like it, you will love it!

I don't believe a lot of what Ford marketing says about the 3.5TT. I have one, however. The guy who drives it didn't know it was a V6 and thot it was a V8 like the others. The guy who drives the one 3.3 also thot it was a V8. Neither had any idea there was anything other than a 5.0 in the F150's.

So I bought a brand new 2016 platinum with the 3.5 Ecoboost a month ago and loved it at first, but now wish I had the same truck but with the 5.0. The sound difference is immense. The difference as far as towing or speed is negligible. My truck sounds like a Japanese car when accelerating at highway speeds. Let me know what you all think.
THE DIFFERENCE IN TOWING IS NEGLIGIBLE?!?! are you serious and actually paying attention. the 3.5 ecoboost at 2000 rpm is generating about what the 5.0 puts out screaming at 3800 rpm at its max torque rate. with the 3.5 you just roll on the throttle. and the power is there. with the 5.0 its downshift jerk rev to over 3300 + rpm. its very much on or off type of power. I spent 2500 miles driving a 5.0 YES I have driven both trucks. I owned a 2014 3.5 eco and the 5.0 was a 2017, I also recently drive a 2018 3.5 eco lariat for a day while my 2017 was in the shop. the 5.0 was frankly annoying for me to drive after spending years driving an ecoboost truck. The trans on the 5.0 always wants to lug the motor below 2k rpm where there is NO torque. No one talks about this but if you live at altitude the 5.0 is going to be at an even greater disadvantage, OR if the density altitude is high that day. the ecboost is going to cut through the thin air better. your 5.0 could easily be 10-15 % down on power which is going to be noticeable because of thin air. the twin turbos your going to be a 3rd to half that number.
let me further add that the 5.0 isn't that great of a truck motor v8 engine. go look at a dyno sheet the 5.4 which this engine replaced was actually belting out a good deal more torque than the 5.0 does at the RPM you spend most your time driving at. heaven forbid the 5.4 out hosses the the 5.0. The ford v8 motor that doesn't get much press is actually the 6.2, The 6.2 is a whole nuther story that motor on paper compares well to the GM LS engines. the 5.0 DOES NOT imo.
lastly the lariat 2018 3.5 ecoboost truck with B&O sound had v8 rumble piped in, laugh all you want and its fake of course but pretend you don't know better, that sounds pretty darn good.

I have to agree about the downshift jerk, which I mentioned last year when I had a 5.0 rental for a week. It was exactly the same as my 2.7 except no moonroof and no sport package, and it was a 2017. After driving my 2.7 for a couple years I found that I really had to give the 5.0 a lot more gas to get going, and sometimes just to force it to downshift to get some acceleration, which left it roaring at high RPM. My truck easily picks up speed at low RPM and usually without downshifting, which I'm really just accustomed to at this point, so the 5.0 just felt weird to me, and yes, jerky because of the downshift instead of a nice linear and smoother feeling acceleration. None of this acceleration I'm talking about was being showy or racing or anything, just things like normal acceleration and picking up speed to merge onto the highway or pass someone.
As for the chart above
That looks great for daily driving to me. Rarely do you ever need to hit past 5k RPM's... Shift points aren't the same, so comparing RPM's alone are of no use because (in a given situation) while the 5.0 might be in 3rd gear, the same EB would be in 4th at lower RPM where the power is. If you plan to race your truck often, then maybe that might concern you, but that's not why most people buy a truck. In the end though, you just get what suits your needs and what your preference is. That's what test drives are for.

I agree with the comment that all these engines are made for different purposes although many of the features and benefits overlap, so................
buy the one that you determine fits most of your needs and stick with it. Great advice.

Now that I've had my 18 5.0 for a month I can confidently say that I do not miss any of my last 3 Eco's. Love this powertrain!!
