Default Are any of the rumored 2017 changes firm?

Still dragging my feet on letting my 03 go for a new one. The 03 is kicking along fine still...just getting well beyond the 10yrs I intended and itching to get a nicer new truck. At this point since I have been dragging my feet so much letting go of my 03, I'm leaning towards pushing a new one off another year or so.

On one hand, the new ones should hopefully be a bit more dialed in by then as far as the small changes they have been making as evident by the TSB's that have come out over the last year or so. On the other, 2 rumored changes kind of scare me which would prompt me to go ahead an pick up a 16.

1) stop start appearing across the board. This one is relatively small, but I do not want it. Would be no big deal if there was a menu setting to permanently disable it, but I do not like the current setup of having to hit the button every start with the 2.7.

2) 10spd transmission. I want NOTHING to do with an all new transmission, especially from Ford lately. I don't see any potential small increase in efficiency being worth the headache. I have experienced early 6F35, 6R80, and DPS6...and EVERY one of them was NOT good, but after a few years and several tweaks and changes they were fine...except maybe the DPS6 which I read is still problematic. I'd much rather stay with the outgoing ironed out 6 than beta test an all new 10.

Those 2 changes still just rumor or have they been confirmed yet?

Start-stop is only on the Ecoboost engines, not across the board.

10 speed is still a guess.

I'm not after an EB. Prob 5.0 but I may even go for the na 3.5 since while it would see a large amount of use as a truck, it wont be anything extreme or beyond the 3.5's capability really. May go for the cheaper maintenance and better MPG this time around vs better power and sound.

I did really like the 2.7 on a test drive minus the stop start and would prob live with it or go 3.5 without the stop start if I was only going to hang on to it for a few years, but I'm MUCH more comfortable with a na engine when it comes to a decade.

The 2nd gen 3.5 EcoBoost is firm. It's going to have both direct and port fuel injection.

10 speed will be in more than just the Raptor. Not confirmed as to what models but I'd suspect the higher spec'd trim levels at first.

I thought I read somewhere that Sync Connect (4G LTE in-car connectivity via at&t) would be available for all MY2017 vehicles, but I haven't been able to find that article. What I found interesting is that SYNC Connect comes with complimentary service from Ford for five years, so no monthly charge.

It says there's an upgrade path for MY2016's (relating to applications, not sure about Sync Connect), but I'm not holding my breath. We heard about that with FordMyTouch, and Ford dropped that infotainment system as quick as they could... like a bad habit.

Hi bigcitymike,

The new Escape will be the first Ford vehicle with SYNC Connect. The technology debuts in the spring: https://media.ford.com/content/fordm...echnology.html

Current SYNC 3 vehicles will not be able to upgrade to SYNC Connect; it uses a different modem. However, an update for Android Auto and CarPlay will be released later this year: https://media.ford.com/content/fordm...roid-auto.html

10 speed in the raptor for 2017, but I would bet it isn't in the entire lineup til 2018. I actually wonder if they'll keep the 6 speed around and make the 10 speed a $$$ option?

Does this mean the Raptor will possibly have this technology?
