Another.. WHAT THE HELL IS THAT NOISE posts..
Hey guys. Wondering if anyone can give me a little insight here. 2018 XLT 5.0. 12,000 miles. Less than a year old. I notice on a cold start, for several minutes after I start the truck, when letting off the gas, I hear a series of very fast "clicks" coming from the front end somewhere. I don't know how else to describe it other then "clicks".. I tried taking a cell phone video of the noise, but you can't really hear it that great. When accelerating, I don't hear it, but as soon as I let off the gas, I hear them. They are very very fast, and loud enough to hear while driving. I had the truck in park today, held the gas with my hand, and released it, and sure enough the "clicks" were there. I'm going to bring it in for an oil change soon anyway, but it's driving me crazy. Any ideas?? Thanks gentlemen!
You have the infamous VCT phaser rattle. Hundreds of pages about that on 2 or 3 threads. You should find all of them in the first page or two on this forum. No real fix yet, so I'd leave it alone if it's not that bad. It's not going to harm the engine, and no sense in getting parts replaced with equally 'bad' ones. But go ahead and read the threads and make up your own mind
. The good news is it only happens when cold. I haven't heard it in my truck, and now that I switched to the new M1 0/30, don't even hear any cold start noises anymore, so happy about that. But haven't tried the gunning the throttle on a cold start to see if it's there, nor will I try it. In fact, even if there's a known fix, since I've never heard it, I wouldn't get it done for fear of something else getting messed up. Good luck.

i read a post cant remember by who. they talked about going to a lot and driving a couple of f150 trucks when cold and they all did it. i at 12000 miles and i dont even hear mine do it anymore at least its not nearly as loud because i cant here it. I wouldn't worry about things like that you still have a lot of warranty if it is truly a problem something will fail under warranty.

I do have a remote start. I notice the noise both when I use the RS or do a normal key start. But mine isn't so much a rattle, it only occurs when letting off the gas pedal, and the best way I can describe it, is a series of very quick "clicks" I'm not it's nothing major, just annoying to hear on a new 50k dollar truck.
