Issue is how quickly Ford corporate + dealer can move to get it fixed, but the specific spec is not easy to find at all.

The rust on my 2011 rear end was way worse than this. A lot of guys had issues with that back when the Ecoboosts first came out in 2011. I climbed under mine the next day to look. My axle is rust free this time woohoo.

This is a non issue for Ford. They see no problem is building new trucks with rusted parts.

Is this a widespread problem with the new F150s. I go to get my truck picked up tomorrow so I hope mine doesnt look like that.

They all have rust on the frame, machined suspension components, front and rear ends to some extent. Hell, the road blast from the front tires beats the paint on the underbody.

I'm still waiting for the rust on the 40 year old, Dana 60 differential cover in my Barracuda to cause me a problem.

Not all, I've been asking for undercarriage pictures now, and I get about half rust half clean black, maybe 8 trucks in total since my OP.

Seems to be an earlier issue that is now corrected at the factory.

It seems like this is a very contentious issue with some people saying it is to be expected on any new vehicle, and others saying that it is something that Ford or the dealer should fix prior to delivery.

I don't know who's right or wrong, all I know is mine looked a lot better than yours. It wasn't perfect, but it was well within acceptable. Here's how mine came: https://www.f150forum.com/f118/hows-look-296689/

The fact is that it's brand new and shouldnt have surface rust on a painted part. The spindles almost always look rusty because there raw metal. The axle is a painted piece and I would expect it to be paint. With the prices Ford sells these truck for they should be perfect.

28K and 2 years old mine still looks like the day I got it. I do often get under the truck and wipe the frame and axle down with WD40 to preserve it.

It's really a crapshoot what's under there, look at the entire drive shaft versus a 'good' one

I sure hope so. I wouldn't hesitate to get under my brand new truck, mask and spray with a high temperature rustoleum rust restoration paint but would love to not have to after dropping over $50k.

My Toyota's (2001 Limited Sequoia & 2006 Tacoma) came from the factory looking pristine and they eventually both had frame rust 'recalls' due to the number of rust through problems. At least Toyota stood behind the vehicles...
