Another purchasing question(sorry)
Ready to pull the trigger on a 20 XLT 301a with 3.5eb, HDPP, max tow pretty well optioned out. Wife and I are expecting our first kid in August so my priorities are changing. I have a 17' street glide special I'll probably sell since we won't have time to enjoy it anymore with the start of a family. When the wife starts working again I'll grab another bike down the road. I'll use the money from the bike sale as a down payment on the truck to get the monthly payment lower.
Was at the dealer this morning. New truck is $53.6k and they will do invoice with is about $50.3k. Current rebates are 3,750 (hoping this goes up April 1st). So discount comes out to 13.15%. No luck on private cash offer been trying to get one.
Now I will be trading in my 13 F-150 (see signature). They offered $17k. Cruising around on KBB and NADA was thinking I would get $18k at the least with my mileage at time of trade in which should be at most 65k miles. Truck is clean with no issues, just had tires, tranny, diffs, transfercase, and coolant changed 5k ago. My question is is this a good deal? I feel they are low balling me on the trade.

I'm not in the market right now so I'm not up to date on current pricing, but judging from the deals I see people getting on XLTs on this forum, it seems like the price is too high on the new truck. If you're not happy with the trade amount, try to sell it private party.
A lot of time dealing on the trade is more difficult than the new car haggling.
Just bought a 2019 XLT and traded in my 2013 5.0L xlt scab with 65K miles. Did not want to do a private sale for a few reasons. I got $17,800 for my trade.
Note that in my state, you deduct the trade from the new car price, so u only pay sales tax on that amount. So that is about a grand.... which brought me close to what i could get with a private sale... without all the BS.
Oh yea. That seems high for the 2020 xlt.

When you say it's high for an XLT are you referring to the MSRP or invite cost the dealer gave me? Invoice was on ford paperwork from a website so it seems pretty legit.
It's a heavily impetuous XLT with the HDPP 4x4 screw with 6.5' bed.
Don't think a dealer would go below invoice on a special order but could be wrong. Hopefully April 1st shows some really good incentives on XLT's.

Not sure where you are, but in the Phila region I'm currently seeing discounts for about 8 1/2-9 1/2%
Second - log onto Carvana and plug your Vin and some basic info into the system - it'll give you a price they will purchase it for - Using this as a guide, I was able to get a dealer to raise his trade offer - I also used Black Book to get some idea of what my truck would have been worth http://www.blackbookportals.com/bb/p...=thinkbank.COM
You should also swing over to this thread and read about what others may be getting as far as discounts go - lot of info here

I bought a loaded new 19 XLT 302a 157 inch wheelbase, etc. The sticker before discounts was just over $57K and my price was $39K with no trade as I was turning in a lease early. I bought this one !

A 2019 will be a much better buy as Ford will help the dealership get it off of the lot, so you really can't compare prices on a 19 vs a 20. That being said, everything Jeal said checks with my experience and are reasonable prices to pay compared to MSRP. Ignoring your trade in for the moment as it effects the price the dealer is willing to sell you the new truck for, you can certainly negotiate to below invoice price. "Invoice" is as arbitrary as MSRP; the dealership makes a fine profit selling "at invoice", which is why they were so ready to sell you a truck at that price. There are some good youtube videos that discuss how financing, trades etc. effect sales prices. They helped me a lot.
I’ve been truck shopping for a month...all the trucks I’ve been looking at have been 302A, super crew, 4x4.
2020, out the door I’m around 41-43 depending on dealer.
2019, out the door I’m about 38,500
ive got an appointment Monday to sign paperwork on a 2019 302a sport edition for 39500...going to try and get them down a little more but after a month of this and going to 3 different dealers to negotiate...I’m good with it.
i was on the fence about a used lariat and still might go that route if something drastic happens

Suggest looking for a 2019. Only worry about a 2019 is flat spotting of the tires if it has not been moved every so often like they are suppose to be. I purchased my 2019 in my signature in February and love it. I was lucky as mine was a Sept. 2019 build, and was shuffled between three total dealers on dealer transfers before landing in my driveway. Another member purchased a early 2019 build and had vibration issues until they replaced the tires. I got mine for around 38,000 with MSPR just under 51,000. Discounts and financing should be better now with current situation unfortunately.
