Default Android Auto dropping out

I use Google Maps on my Samsung Galaxy S8 plugged into my Android Auto with a USB cable to get the GPS directions through the dash console screen. Occasionally, in the middle of the trip, the dash screen goes back to the default screen with no indication of a way back into Android Auto. The only solution is to unplug the phone from the cable, then plug it back in. If I do that, it boots back up as if nothing had happened. Any ideas?

Mine did that with a poor cable. Try the original cable or another one from a reputable brand.

I went with one from Anker, has worked well for over a year.

I second the cable. Mine was flaky for a while till I found a cable it likes. Now it's Rock solid.

I had the exact same phone (S8) and same issue - as posted above a new cable solved it.

I went through about a dozen cables, these trucks and AA are awful for connectivity, so sensitive to cable I don't know why. Friends F150s the same. Other vehicles no problem with any cable, I could plug fa tory one into my truck and half the time it was like duuuuur or give those random Cable not compatible messages (or it wouldn't even charge). Other vehicles 0 issues.

I had three rental F150s out of state and both S9 and S21 were hiccupy. I always travel with extra cables as never know if 1 will work.

One of my Anker cables worked fine than after about 5 months just completely stopped working and those cables are hardly moved around as phone just sits in cup holder.

I'm having the same issue. It will boot up for 20 seconds, then disappear. I tried a different cable, then I went and bought a brand new cable from lowes and same issue.

That sounds like a different issue, my cable issues were sporadic. That sounds like you might want to delete AA app, remove Bluetooth device from the truck then re-pair everything.

Also, was the cable from Lowes a quality cable or just one they had in the bin near checkout? A lot of them are junk.

I did delete AA and reinstall. restarted the phone also.

Not sure if it was quality, it was $12 for a 4ft cable? What local place would have a quality one?

These are what I use, after like a dozen different cables including factory units. I had other Ankers that had issues with but these have been 95% great, hiccup once in awhile but Ford/AA glitches are well know vs other manufacturers, I don't have issues in other vehicles or even rentals, just Fords, Stang GT, F150s, Explorer....
