Default Android Auto Disconnecting

Hi everyone, this is my first truck and I'm loving having such a great F150 and wish I hadn't waited so long to get one. I have a question that I may have missed the answer to in the threads.

I am running the current release of Sync and my Galaxy S9 keeps becoming disconnected from Android Auto. Running through the normal troubleshooting I have replaced the USB C to A cables and I am only successful occasionally by re-seating the connection to the phone. This doesn't happen every time, but seems to average every other day.

The strange part, the phone will be charging while not connected to AA. Bluetooth works normally and I can run AA on the phone itself but it isn't showing up on the truck.

I'm out of ideas of what I may have missed and hoping that y'all can share some wisdom with me.

I had to get more than one cable before I found one that worked reliably for me. AA and the USB hub is very finicky about the cable. Not a F-150 exclusive thing for me either. I had lots of disonnects on my VW Passat as well till I finally found a cable that works reliably.

This is the cable that worked the best for me.

This is a widely reported problem with Android Auto, since mid 2020, that they have yet to fix. I have it, thought it was a cable, discovered it was not a cable. Some suggest it's tied to your phone achieving 100% charge. I have not spent the time to see if that's my issue due to the pandemic, driving only once a week, and it being cold out.

Good to see this is not isolated to me I have had good luck with the cable I have but recently disconnects. Now Waze, from android auto, on the Ford Display freaks out. It will keep spinning, not know the actual direction the truck is traveling.

Are we able to provide feedback to ford to contribute to a fix? With all due respect, we spend a few bucks for the key feature that is not working correctly. I was going to start using an old GoPro to record the screen to capture details.

To Ford? Android Auto is not Ford, it's Google.

I too suffer from this problem with my S9. As others have said, you may want to try different cables. I also find that my connection is more stable in one direction of the usb c cable facing up on the phone side (you can connect it either way, usb c was designed to support either end being up). I put a dot of nail polish on the cable to help me quickly identify this way. Finally, i need to spray electrical contact cleaner in my phone port every month or so. My phone suffers from exposure to salt water and has never been the same.

I have a Google Pixel 2XL. It isn't phone model specific.

Thanks for the help, good to know that I'm not alone. Hopefully they (Google and/or Ford) will get this straightened out, AA is really nice when it's working.

Yep definitely a common problem. It's very hard to downright impossible to know whether an issue is an AA problem, Samsung Galaxy problem, or Sync problem. One time it got so bad I had to clear the cache on my phone for AA, Google and Google Play in order to get it working again.

Another common problem I get is the phone will ring thru AA but when I answer I can't hear the caller.
