Since I'm short, I need a little help reaching the floor of the bed, when reaching over the sides. I have a 2017 Lariat 145" FX4. I researched the AMP Bedstep and the Ford boxstep, and ordered the AMP from Amazon, due to cheaper price, and recommendations from others on this forum. Thanks guys!
Here's my install:
Everything is laid out, ready to go. Arm is assembled with bolts very loosely hand tightened.
Everything is good to go.
This is where it attaches to the frame, right by those two rectangular holes.
I was having alot of difficulty reaching and installing the top-left bolt, so I got my kid, with his little hands, to help.
Bolts are hand threaded in, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to reach the left hand bolts to tighten them with my socket wrench, much less my torque wrench!
Finally figured out that I should have removed my Husky liner first! Really opened up access to the install location!
Tucks up nicely.
And pops out with lots of room for me to step on. Previously I would just step on one of the spokes of my rim, but I didn't like the idea of possibly scratching it, hence this little project.
And it matches the OEM power running boards quite well.
I'm very happy with this install as I can finally reach the floor of the front of the bed, without scratching up my rims!
I haven't seen the Ford one in action, only on a truck parked in a lot, but from the manuals I've read, the answer is no. This one is spring activated: you push down from the top, and it'll pop down. Then you push up from the bottom, and it'll pop back up. Definitely wouldn't want to do it with shiny dress shoes.
I believe the Ford one is gas activated? You press a button on the side to pop open and closed I believe? Someone can correct me on that. It's also physically alot bigger. When closed, the step itself is alot taller than the AMP one, really sticks out when you have the power running boards.
Exactly. I'll see how "drivers side only" goes for a while. If it really bugs me that I don't have the same access from the passenger side, then I'll list it on my birthday or christmas wish list so the wife can buy it for me.
