Oh god, stop trolling. The 3 threads you started got locked. You trying to get this one locked too? Take the hint. Give it a rest man... Next you're gonna say it wouldn't have happened if it were a diesel truck lmao

They do use thicker panels because they absolutely had to. Aluminum is not steel. It behaves MUCH differently when stressed. With the addition of a vice grip and some initial implement to give me a starting point I can 'tear' 1/16" Aluminum. Aluminum responds to this much different than steel. Once a tear or crack is formed AL is hosed. From there it will expand. This is why aircraft must be closely inspected at rivet joints and other stressed locations.

Aluminum is light so it's used in aircraft, even in 'military' aircraft. Nothing about that changes a thing about the properties of one of the softest metals on the periodic table. Alloys make it tougher, but it WILL NEVER BE STEEL.

On a side note, with a pair of pliers. I peeled back a chuck of door panel on a junk car as well. Guess what I needed to get that started. Yep, a claw hammer to get the initial tear going. Once that happened the steel peeled back just like that, but tended to stay in thinner strips.

This gives a graphical representation of the aluminum thickness vs steel thickness.

And mbullock...thanks for posting that. Carwashes have a hell of a lot more power than I thought.
Not a problem. I get it. I see more weird things than most, being a painter. If you only knew how many phallic carvings I've fixed on people's cars...haha!

Haha now that doesn't surprise me.

OP, You may not have to take him to court. Check with your insurance company first. I know that in similar situations my insurance company will go after the responsible party and not only get back what they paid out but also get back my deductible.

If you actually read the whole thread, you would know that is precisely what is happening

I highly doubt it's equipment failure, it's just that the antenna wrapped around the spinning brush and got yanked off, which is why they tell you to remove it. I'm really curious what the outcome will be with this. Subscribed!

I personally hand wash, or "wand wash" at a DIY car wash. If I'm in a hurry I'll go through a touchless wash, but never ever through one of those car washes with the spinning brushes! I don't trust them, they leave swirl marks, and they never clean the tailgate properly.
Again as I have posted they HAVE NO SIGN! I have pictures of the place if you feel I really need to post them. My insurance company already paid for it and is going after the owner of the place. I have no doubt I will win my deductible in small claims court.

You are correct. Geico is working on this right now.

I wasn't concerned about it since I have never had a problem in 26 years. And since they DIDN'T have any signs warning of the danger I didn't think anything about it. The owner said to me they have a policy the employee is to remove the antenna. Wish I had it on tape!
