My 2011 has wheel chocks bolted to a piece of plywood cut to fit the front of the bed so that my front wheel stays off the tonneau cover. I am buying a 2015 and want the 5.5 ft bed for city handling.

Question for ya...

I love the idea of the wheel chock. How did it work out with the Roll-X cover and the dirtbike mounted? I very much want to get that cover, but am worried about my dirtbikes? I don't want to have to remove the cover to get it in the bed.

I couldn't get the guys at BAK to send me a picture of a real dirt bike in the truck with this cover. They only sent me pictures of quads and I've delayed ordering the cover because of that.

I have the 6.5 ft bed and was thinking of getting the DG Tailgate Supports to support the tailgate while my two bikes are in straight.

How far back from the front wall did you mount those chocks? I would need to order the 10 or 13 inch tailgate support.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Maurice

Maurice, it ought to fit just fine with the 6.5 bed, it's the 5.5 that is the problem.

I have a f150 2015 with 6.5ft and I installed the CCR sport ProTrack a few weeks ago. Let me see if I can shed some light...

High level review:

Install is easy, if you have the right tools (As a dirt biker, I have all metric tools, but it required imperial-sized tools FYI). If you have a spray-in bediner you will need to shave it down to the aluminum to correctly install it. The bedliner is pretty think but not hard to remove in the few spots you need to. It mounts using expanding bolts, so you don't need to remove the bed from the truck to install it.

I ordered the full size 60" size. It fits perfectly, and with the 3rd bike extender, I have easily fit 3 full size dirt bikes in the back with minimal effort.

See the attached pictures and let me know if you want/need more info!

EDIT:***Later on I also installed a roll-up cover and it works without problem/interference as you can see in the picture of the three bikes loaded, as the cover easily folds up tight enough to not interfere with the wheels.

Petrolhead,
Thanks for the pics.
How far back do the tie down hooks/loops extend from the front edge of the bed? I am wondering if there is any chance I can use this tie down system with a bakflip hard folding cover ( I doubt it ).
Nice looking setup!!!

Maurice,
The plywood system worked very well for me in my 2011 w 6.5ft bed. Not the prettiest system but neither am I! The bikes held very tight, never an issue. I often move a big bike and two kid's bikes (CRF 70's) one on either side of mine.
I measured by simply rolling my bike till the front tire touched the Roll-x cover while having the chock under the tire. As you can see in the messy pic I have e-track across the plywood ( I apologize for the tree parts muddying the pic) and the big bike's chock inserts into it. I built two small chocks with 2 x 4 that insert into 2x4 e-track ends (held with bolts so they won't pop out). The 2x4 chocks were necessary for the small CRF 70 wheels as the forks were not high enough to clear the metal chock.
Ultimately this allowed me to move the chocks left or right as I desired and I often carried two full size bikes with one in the metal chock and the other in the 2x4 chock and never an issue.
You could easily build all the chocks from 2x4. Cheap and reliable!!!
Happy to answer any questions.
Cheers!

Any concerns about the hardware corroding the aluminum? Was it coated, aluminum or stainless for the bolts hardware? I know many on here are concerned with the two different metals reacting.

That last picture is exactly what I think I need to do. (btw... I too am a KTM and/or Yamaha guy)

I normally carry two bikes, but could carry 3 on occasion. Your picture shows me exactly what my setup would look like. The bed extender is probably necessary to hold all the extra gear moreso than the bikes themselves.

I dig the rollup cover. Its out of the way and would also allow me to put mountain bikes in the bed, which have even bigger tires that the dirtbikes (29")., I haul those more than the dirt bikes.

Is the rollup cover noisy? Is it durable? I probably need it to help keep out the elements more than anything.

also, I am envious of the 2015 trucks with the ramps mounted on the inner walls. That's cool. Its not worth the 20 grand extra I'd have to pay to trade in my truck, but its still cool.

soft rollup cover price + bed extender price = Revolver X2 price

Good info guys.

Maurice, if you don't have a bed extender check to see if the side wall hole has threads. My new 2015 does not have threaded holes where my my 2011 with factory extender did. I kept my extender but need to have the holes threaded.
I found the extender got in the way too often and I am going to get a Motogate as I think it will be more flexible for various uses as its not a rigid set in place hard gate.
I had my Roll-x for 4 yrs (Ontario winters = not too harsh) and this cover was awesome. I was 100% on getting it again until I read the bikes may not fit with shorter bed. It was quiet and never an issue. I like being able to see out the rear window with the tonneau open.
Cheers

I have hauled to full size bikes and two kids bikes with mine. No issues tying bikes to the front of the bed. It held up just fine.
I also have the bed extenders from my 13 bolted into my 15. Everything was in the same place as the 13 for the install.

Good info guys.
Woohoo for another team Orange member here! Gotta love those orange machines

Glad that the picture helps. It's pretty easy to put 3 bikes in there, particularly with the 3rd bike middle extender (http://ccrsport.com/protrack-3rd-bike-extender/). Make sure to order one, or if you can, two additional tie down loops (http://ccrsport.com/protrack-tie-down-loop/) for the rack. It makes it easy to find the right angles when tying down multiple bikes and/or gear in there.

The rollup cover works great for me...I leave it rolled up unless I have something in the bed that I need to cover. It's pretty waterproof, and doesn't make any noticeable noise, at least from the driver's POV and I've driving it 85+ with it rolled out. Just make sure that it's properly velcroed and latched into place.

The cover I have is this: http://tonneaus.com/truxedo-truxport...rx-297701.html . With 2-3 people it's a very fast and easy install. It does mount *on* on the bed rails as you can see in the picture so you'd lose slots in the bed rail to tie things down with. I used tie down mounting points within the bed for stuff that needed latching.

The big thing for me was being able to have a cover that:

1) Could fit with those slick ramps (So it had to be on top of the bed rather than in otherwise it would interfere with the ramps)
2) Could allow me to easily fit all of my dirt bikes/gear without extra hassle (rolls up nice and tight, doesn't need to be mounted to the front of the bed)
3) Still a decent cover...

I think that covers it all. If anyone else has a slick setup for hauling dirt bikes, or a cover they use with I'd love to see it!

I think the Revolver X2 is an awesome cover. So is the peragon and retrax. Definitely a grade above the roll up stuff I have. I don't think it would work with the bed buddy though given that most of these covers mount where the bed buddy mounts in the front of the bed (and the ramps too...).

Now if only someone build a cover like that with integrated wheel chocks and mounting points...
----

About the materials possibly affecting each other...I don't know what to say about that, it's above my mechnical pay grade and I think I'd spread more confusion than info there. As far as I can tell, it's still in great shape. If you have anything you'd want me to check or take pictures of for you, give a shout out and I'll be your guinea pig for this setup.

Hope it all helps some more!
