Given that these trucks have a 6 speed tranny and 6th is geared pretty tall, I just ordered a 2015 with the 3.73 and will run the stock LT 275/65R18 tires. Definitely get at least the 3.55.

Getting taller factory gears from the start is the way to go. If you get 3.73's with 35's those are actually a taller combo than 3.31's with stock tires..
As far as someone 'tearing into' a new truck why does that matter? I have thousands of miles on aftermarket axles and ring and pinion in supercharged mustang that sees much more torque and HP than the OP will likely see in her truck.

If money is an obstacle, I would reccomend not going with a 6 inch lift, 35s, and a platinum 2015 in the first place.

That said, the lowest gear I could get in my 5.5 bed Eco was 3.55. I am ok with it but would have preferred 3.73. You have to step up to the 6.5 bed and I don't want my truck that long.

OP I doubt you will tear anything up with 35's on 3.31s. You will have serious loss of performance though so IMO if you can afford a Platinum F150 and want 35's get the re-gear. Fuel mileage wont suffer any either, and may improve because the truck will be able to hold over drive.

Ehh, I don't agree with your reasoning, but to each their own... That is great your modded Mustang has proven durable, but that is neither here nor there.

Why mess with factory drive line components and spend unnecessary money on something you can get from the factory? Get the 3.73's from Ford, spend less money and be done with it.

There are two kinds of car/truck owners in this world:
  • Those who drive from point A to point B and worry about the short-lived factory warranty way too much.
  • Those who do what they want with their vehicles so they can enjoy them.
I know which one I am, and I'm pretty sure I know which one you are.

dead-on .... nothing less than 3.73 ..... and 4.10 if you want "Off Road".

And don't forget your brakes ... 35" tires will put a lot of demand on stock discs.& pads

I don't think it is so B&W.. I'd venture to say that most guys that are 'Point A to Point B' don't bother registering on an automotive forum, place special orders with 2 month minimum waits or spend this kind of money on a truck...

I guess I just don't understand the point of taking the 'hard road' vs the 'easy path' if both end up at the same destination?? 3.73's w/ 35's will net about the same result as stock tires on 3.31's.

If you want to spend upwards of $2K (4X4 vehicle) on a gear change on a brand new vehicle rather than just ordering from Ford and saving money.. Have at it! God knows I won't stop you.
