Default The AGGRAVATING Double Honk

We have all had to deal with the double honk that occurs when you get out of the truck with it running and the fob in your pocket. To this point I am unaware of a way to disable that. (Even asked one of the technicians at my local dealer)

But I found an instance the other day where I got another double honk. I got to my running buddy's house way before the crack to go for a run. I left my fob sitting on the console with the engine off, locked the door using the lock button on the inside of the door and shut the door. Got the dreaded double honk at 4:30am. Thought he was going to kill me. Had no clue why it happened. Figured it out yesterday, if you are going to lock your fob in the truck without the honks, you have to shut the doors unlocked and then us the outside keypad to lock it. Hope this helps some of you to not wake your family or neighbors.

You princesses and your non existent problems... Either leave the key in the truck or turn the damn thing off. Problem solved

I did the same thing late at night when I went to grab something from a friend's house at 12:30 am. Double honk in their driveway when their 6 month old's room is adjacent to the driveway.

Mom didn't like that very much...

Leave the fob inside? use keypad to get back in or roll down a window? Dunno if those are real options. Just thinking.

DR9 - A lot of guys on here are purposely leaving the key fob in the truck. The problem isn't getting back in, it's the issue of the horn honking when you don't want it to. If you leave the fob in the truck and use the door lock, it will double honk when you close the door to let you know the fob is still in the truck, I assume.

Boossted- Get a NEW truck and then you can leave your smart comments about turning the "damn thing off." You obviously didn't read the original post.

If it didn't double-honk (or if it could be disabled), there would be a boatload of people leaving their vehicle running on accident because they didn't realize it was running & they took their FOB with them.

Remember, if this were a KEYED ignition, you couldn't leave the truck running while taking the key with you.

Good to know about the keypad vs door locking. Although I don't think the double honk when you leave it running with the fob in your pocket is a bad thing at all, this is good info regarding HOW to lock the door when you leave the fob in there.

Well said, thank you

I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and buy another fob. The honk is an "idiot" feature much like an "idiot light" of the past for the people that need such an annoyance to keep their stupidity level in check. The rest of us that know what and why we are doing it should have an option to disable it and deal with the consequences on our own.

Just like the common sense to not click on a post that does not apply to oneself. But we can't be that lucky I guess

I do understand WHY the truck honks when you get out with it running and the fob in your pocket but that doesn't make it any less aggravating. The whole purpose of the keyless entry (grab the handle to unlock and touch the black button only to lock) and the push button start is convenience. But start the engine and step back out of the truck to close another door, check the mail, hook up a trailer, etc. and it is honking at you. I get out of my truck all the time with it running (Sorry to all of the tree huggers). I guess I can continue to take the fob in and out of my pocket, which I am learning to do more now that it is boating season.

While I'm not a big fan of leaving the fob in the truck all the time, the main reason of starting the thread was to inform others who like to do so how to lock the truck without the unwanted honking. If I were a thief, the first place I would go to steal a vehicle would be the gym or the boat ramp. People leave their keys in the car at those places all the time. Regardless, I have learned a lot through this forum and thought I would share my experiences.
