Adding navigation to Sync 3
Yes it can be done. Visit infotainment.com and you can do just about anything for the right amount of money. They are pricey but everything he does is pretty much plug n play from what I understand. Hope this helps.
Easiest way is to upgrade to version 2.2 and use a phone. If you use Android, the upgrade is free. If you use Apple, you'll need to upgrade your USB hub, maybe $50? In either case, I think the navigation is far better than factory, with Android superior over Apple.
Big sticky thread on it. Start at the end of the thread and work your way backwards to find the files you need. Instructions are inside of the zip files.

not conflicting, just two different ways to get Nav. Android Auto or CarPlay uses your phone's map program to do navigation (and other things) but needs to be plugged in and does change how quickly you can access other features on sync3. Getting a new APIM will upgrade you to factory nav and full integration. You can still do AA or CP if you want, but the factory nav is what some people like. The extra benefit of using AA or CP is the maps are always up to date. Factory nav via new APIM will become out of date and you'll need to buy new maps every few years if you want the most up to date and correct navigation.
