Adding led light to running boards
So I had a dual purpose mod this weekend and although I will be adding this to my build page , I made a stand alone thread so people doing the same thing would have an easier time finding it and hopefully it helps.
I wanted to put some led lights under my Running boards and I came to the realization that I needed some spacers in between the body and the board brackets (aluminum body – steel brackets ).
So it was a win win, I had to take them off to put in the neoprene washers that I picked up and I was able to Epoxy the leds’ to the underside of the boards.
First I would like to give a shout out to forum member johnday in BFE for inspiring me to do it AND to preventing me from drilling holes on my body to run the wires. It was so simple and right in front of me but I didn’t see it until he pointed it out to another member in another thread. Ill show in pics to follow.
So I removed the boards and prepped the area, installed washers for reassembly .

I know people used silicone to mount the leds. I was just paranoid that they would eventually fall down So I went with old trusty JB weld. Clear epoxy, set up in 5 minutes and I let dry for they say 1 hr and im sure that depends on temp but it was warm here but MUGGY when I did it so at the 1 hr mark although they were technically dry but a little tacky so I waited 1.5 hrs to install them back on truck and the epoxy was set.

I did use the clear silicone to seal the ends of the leds just in case and to seal up where wiring went into body.

While I was waiting for epoxy to dry I made my harness and ran in along the chase and behind the rear seat to the passenger side for hook up. ( ps also used the Grey with the violet tracer for the positive and the Black with yellow tracer for the ground )

Now here is where johnday comes in here are the clips that hold in the wiring channel in the side slots in the rear under the kick panels. They already poke though the body so you just drill down in the middle of one of those clips and BINGO no new hole in the body to run the wires. And the real beauty is you still have the other clip to hold the plastic channel in place.

Here is after drilling , you can see daylight

Reinstalled everything and went home and waited for dark ! Kind of a crappy pic as I had to take from window because if I walked outside the motion light would have went off and ruined the shot.

So they come on when you open the door or hit unlock with the fob. The fade out and turn off when you close the door or hit lock on the fob just like the dome lamp.
