I just bought a 2017 F-150 XL STX package. It came with the Sync 3 touch screen system but interestingly no back up cam. Want to put one on for when my wife drives the truck. Does this system come with the capability for a backup cam? Does it have the plugs and just needs a camera plugged in? I appreciate any and all input as Ford doesn’t seem able to or want to share this info.
Thanks!!!
With enough money and time anything is possible.
How much money are you ok paying and are you able to do the work your self or will you pay a shop to do this?
Do you want only rear camera or 360 view?
I would assume 360 degree would run over $2000, but that is just a guess.
360 degree will require a great deal more new parts, new module, new rear view mirrors with cameras in them.

I can do all the work. Did it on a Toyota before. Need only rear view. Just trying to find out if this console has the rca video port without having to pull it out to find out. A lot of work to be disappointed.
There's no rca input on the back of the screen. It's part of a large 50something pin plug. When I replaced mine with an aftermarket headunit, my kit came with a wire harness that split off the plug into a rca harness if I recall correctly.
This second pic shows the adapter that turns the stock camera from that large plug into an rca plug for use with aftermarket headunits. Good luck. The kit is a iDatalink kit-mft1 BTW.

thanks for the input. That’s what I was needing to know. Much appreciated!
Check under the tailgate area for a wiring harness for the tailgate and camera wiring. You'll probably need a new tailgate handle along with the camera. For the basic rear view camera, I believe the screen is all you need. The 360 has a separate control module that controls all the other camera views.
This is correct, for rear camera only the rear camera wiring goes into the large APIM connector. 360 view has four cameras total and a image processing module.
For the rear camera I believe all you will require is a new rear handle, a rear camera, maybe the internal tailgate wiring harness if you dont have the plug for the camera already in the tail gate.

So if I understand you correctly, this console I have supports a backup cam, it just needs to be Fords compatible, possibly getting a harness too? I will look in the tailgate to see if there’s an extra plug flopping around.
thx again

Based on the wiring diagrams as far a I can tell yes. In actuality you should check the wiring harness before ordering anything at all.
I do not recommend aftermarket cameras, maybe people on here know a few good brands, I had one customer who supplied his own aftermarket camera, over two months I installed at least 4 different brands of aftermarket cameras he supplied, all of them had faults immediately or within a week of install, the customer paid labor each time, finally he bought a motorcraft camera which worked perfectly fine.
Here as the wiring diagram for touch screen with rear camera, connector views, rear camera connector location, BCM connector location.
I would check that the fuse in the diagram is present, then remove the touch screen, the APIM is the silver box on the back, you need the large black connector to the APIM, watch youtube for how to remove the touchscreen, remove the part of the tailgate I circled in red, they are torx screws, I think you should be able to see the connector with that removed, next your BCM(interior fusebox) is behind the right front scruff plate. If you want to be absolutely sure you can rest resistance of each of the wires from one end to the other, if you do this make damn sure to use a little tiny pin so you dont spread the terminals, I suppose a sewing needle would work and you could attach the multimeter to it with the alligator jaw attachments
Remember you dont give two ****s about voltage other then at C4360 Pin 1, everything else you are checking resistance(ohms).
You will need to calibrate the new camera to your vehicle after install by using a high end OBD2 scan tool, I do not know if FORScan can do this or not, If memory serves calibrating the camera makes the green/yellow/red warning sections appear on the screen.

Scott,
thank you for taking the time to explain and diagram. I will check these things out and if it’s possible and reasonably priced then I may put one in. Otherwise, my wife is going to have to learn to use the mirrors
