adding an amp to the factory stereo unit?
My 2018 has the navigation and all that, but not sure what brand of system it has. Seems to be a few different types from what I am reading. I want to put a simple amp and 10" sub in. Do these have RCA jacks on the back for this? My 2011 had to have an adapter, but I cant find a straight answer on what adapter is needed for this radio if so. Does anybody know what I will need for this? Trying to avoid taking my dash apart twice haha
No rca connectors. There may be a signal going to a connector behind the driver's side c pillar, but 18s have been hit or miss. You can get power and a 6v signal turn on back there as well in the connector, so a modest amp can use the wpt1212 harness and that connector to get power, ground, turn on, and signal to the back of the cab. You'll need forscan to enable the signal output, but it's simple and quick.
I see. There isn't just a plug adapter that's made to just unplug the back of the radio, stick the adapter in and plug it back in?that's the way my '11 was, it was great not having to unpack and splice wires . Haha
Are you just wanting a 10" sub and amplifier for it or are you wanting to add an amplifier to power your factory speakers?
If you just want the sub and amp for it then the connector behind the c pillar can take care of it for you and requires no splicing of the truck's wiring. Just buy the wpt1212 and mate it to the amps wiring harness, enable the output via forscan, and enjoy.
If you want to add an amp to the factory door speakers, or later replace them and want more clean power to them, you can get the parrott for-11ck harness to put in line with the head unit and use it to feed speaker level signal to an amp, or do a forscan change and send a low level signal to an amp. None of it has you modifying or tapping into the factory harness.

Yea just adding an amp with a sub on it, nothing to do with the door speaker right now. The wpt1212 has a plug on one end and nothing on the other, I guess (knowing nothing about audio wiring), I don't know how it works. So there is a plug in the C pillar that the wpt1212 plugs into, and then where do my RCA wires coming off the amp plug in? It's just cut wires. Sorry if this sounds like a completely stupid question, I just never messed with this kind of stuff. My other truck had a box that plugged in and had RCA jack's on the back of it, so this is really different
The plug end matches what's behind the c pillar. The bare wire ends can either be crimped or soldered to your choice of connectors that match up with your amp's wiring, or take the harness for the amp and permanently join it to the wpt1212 harness. It just depends on what the connections to the amp require.
