Does anyone know if transmission temperatures factor in on the grill shutters or is it just engine temperatures. I traded a naturally aspirated 3.5 for a 2.7 ecoboost, and the ecoboost has an auxiliary transmission cooler where the 3.5 did not. But the 2.7, even with the heavy duty transmission cooler, runs at a hotter temp in normal operation (non towing) than the 3.5na with no auxiliary cooler (non towing package). Any ideas why?

It's not only engine temp, it's also the ac system. If the ac/defroster is on, the shutters will be partially open. If you turn off the ac/defroster on a cool fall day, the shutters will close. I have noticed higher trans temps when the shutters are closed.

I believe the shutters aren't for cooling the engine, just for warming it.

Is your transmission overheating, or just warmer.

Sportmode

I've read that the 6 speed transmissions were designed to run hotter. I've seen normal operating temps posted in this forum around 205 to 207 degrees. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.......

The shutters will also start to close at around 45 mph to improve fuel mileage. The shutters can adjust 16 positions between full open and full closed.

What I do not like about the shutters is the water temperature rising to 230 degrees when cruising at 80 mph in the summer.

Some folks are unplugging the shutters or removing them completely.

Just warmer. I have the towing package with auxiliary tranny cooler and I average about 209 on the highway not loaded or towing anything. My 3.5na, with no towing package or auxiliary tranny cooler ran 199 to 201. Even when I run the A/C the tranny temps stay above 202

My 2009 with the 5.4 and 6R80 would run at 190-195 as "normal temperature". The 6R80 in my 2016 runs 200-208 as normal. both had/have coolers. Not sure if it's the active shutters or internal thermostat or what.

I removed the grille shutters on my truck. Coolant/trans runs about 10-15 degrees cooler on average.

Does anyone hear a high pitched buzz coming from the grill area after you've turned off your truck? You have to listen close to hear it... But I hear it on mine. It last for a little while after the truck has been shut off. What is that? ...why does it do that?
