Default ABS diagnostic trouble codes

Hi Guys,

My truck is greeting me with the following symptoms:
  • From turn on, and before driving at all, dash messages of Service Advance Trac, Hill Start Assist Not Available, ABS light all together -> also verified that ABS is in fact not working
  • My code reader pulled U0415-00 "Invalid Data Received from (ABS) Control Module"
  • Advance Auto code reader pulled
    • C0031-14 "Left Front Wheel Speed Sensor - Circuit Short to Ground or Open"
    • C0031-38 "Left Front Wheel Speed Sensor - Signal Frequency Incorrect"
    • C0031-65 "Left Front Wheel Speed Sensor - Signal Has Too Few Transitions/Events"
  • Advance Auto battery tester indicated battery, alternator, and starter were fine

My thought was to first replace the front left sensor and harness, Ford PN "MOTORCRAFT BRAB514". Thoughts?

-kehyler

Edit: here is what solved these codes for me: link

Check your battery first, these trucks will display a lot of dash errors because of a bad or undercharged battery, mine did.

Good luck

My battery is 6 years old, but per autozone it was tested as "pass" per there hand hold tester.

With a 6 year old battery, honestly, I would suspect that. Did they do a load test or alternator test? My thoughts are still a bad battery. Good luck and let us know what you find out.

I believe they did a load test (80 something percent), and then they monitored during a staring and alternator. All passed.

Yeah, I'll keep the thread updated.

The codes tells you the Left Front wheel speed Sensor circuit is either open or shorted.
They directly feed their signals to the ABS System.
You got direct trouble codes. and the ABS detected it also, that tells you there is no signal from that Sensor, from a circuit fault..
Leave the battery alone.
It is not the cause of one wheel speed sensor, circuit, out of 4 to go faulty.
Good luck.

The fault code says >circuit open or shorted to ground.
Check this out, as a whole circuit.
Good luck.

Replacing the speed sensor with MOTORCRAFT BRAB514 did not resolve my issue.

Replacing my front left wheel bearing with a JL3Z1104U resolved my issue. The original was worn and needed replacing. Truck had 65k miles on it, tire size is stock. I would kind of expect them to last longer than that Ford...

Forgot to mention that two new sensors read 2.3 and 3.0 MOhm, and the one which was on the truck read open circuit.

My '18 4x4 Scab XL 3.5EB needed both front hubs replaced at about 42K miles. Never off-road or run through deep water. With the number of comments about "early" wheel bearing failure, I gotta believe the engineers responsible for the design missed the ball and ended up under-engineering the hubs for cost savings, and didn't quite account for the loading normally seen by the heavier front axle.
