7th 8th gear issues
Hi all
2018 F150ecobbost here. I noticed yesterday while driving in manual 7th gear on highway, a thunk feel when changing from cruise (light throttle) to mid or higher throttle.
Does not look to be any slipping going on. RPM's look normal. Also watching torque converter slip on Ngauge and this looks normal.
I can replicate this in 7th and 8th gear. It does NOT happen in the OD gears 9th, 10th.
I can also feel it while cruising in auto. If if in 9th/10th gear and give some gas, then it will downshift to 7thor 8th. After in that gear I can feel the thunk will applying mid throttle or more.
I also feel it more than once. This will happen several times while trying to hold mid throttle or more.
If I get it closer to WOT from 9th or 10th gear, It will pick up 4th/5th/6th gear and all feels good. RPM's are higher and in the power band.
The driving mode does not seem to matter. Very easy to replicate while driving in manual mode. Happens every time.
I have read somewhere about feeling the torque converter locking up. But I can't remember felling this. Especially multiple times in the same gear while on the throttle.
I always drive in sport mode. Using manual shifting only sometimes. The times I use manual are usually in the lower gears.
I am MPT tuned and have used them since day one. Currently running a revision of E50 tune. I have not tried to go back to stock tune yet.
I can try this, but the power is so low stock tune, I don't know if I would even be able to tell if it was doing it. After I run through my current fuel, I will try this.
I had a new trans put in about 57,000 miles under warranty. I had issues with my overdrive gears at that time.
Currently have about 80,000 miles on truck now. Only codes I get are soft P061A.. I have only seen this code one the latest E50 revision.
I am not pushing huge power here. Truck runs a 12.2 1/4 in street form on the street.
Any help or thoughts would be very much appreciated.
Thanks

I looked up the code you gave and guess what?
It says torque has exceeded a max value.
The cause: A tune or PCM program has been changed.
I did not make any of this up, it's right from the code tables.
Just a note; gears 8, 9 and 10 are all overdrives gears. 7 is 1;1.
Good luck.

After I clear the code, it only seems to set a soft DTC doing several WOT runs starting at highway speeds. Say 70 MPH to 120s.
Never had this one pop up in the 2+ years driving tuned. Until this latest revision.

52isntbigenough, That sounds just like mine. Are you tuned? If so what tune are you running?
I installed a revised tune over the weekend and testing this now. So far it is much better. I am nervous to try the manual
test in 7th/ 8th/ 9th or 10th to see if it is still there at all.
I know that sounds crazy, just not ready to have a bad day.

I loaded a new tune a last week. Seems a bit better, but still feeling it. I have no soft codes on this so far. I would like to try and rule out misfires. I can't do that on my Ngauge.
I do have a Forscan I bought prior to the Ngauge and tune. I tried to get a license years back. I was never able to get it to work.
I would like to get a handheld that has Mode 6. From what I read, This can view misfires per cylinder. Even if there is no codes thrown.
I am fine spending more than the $20-40 that I spent on the Forscan.
Any advice for a easier way to view this?
Thanks
