Default 3rd gear

2017 10 speed transmission surges when shifting to 3rd gear. It is annoying when one is going slow and the truck suddenly leaps forward. It could be a safety issue if your foot is not ready for the brake. Anybody else here experienced this?

How many miles? Mine did the same thing at first. After about 2k miles or so it smoothed out along with a few other little quirks. The transmission needed to learn my driving style. And since I drive like an old man it stopped anticipating a lot of throttle imput from a stop. I wish it wouldn't skip to 3rd everytime -in normal mode- and would shift into second under certain circumstances like parking lots, traffic, etc

Same here. 20K on it now. It's just eager to get to that gear.

Ahh yes, 3rd gear, epilogue of 2nd, and the harbinger of 4th.

Same with me too but I've never seen it as a safety issue.

I've been paying attention to it lately. It seems to go from 1 to 3rd skipping 2nd

The owners manual explains the shift patterns of the 10 speed. Skipping 2nd in normal driving is by design. It's probably skipping 4th as well.
